Those in the market for a simple, free program for jotting down quick notes and creating desktop reminders will not be disappointed with ATnotes.

Right-clicking the system tray icon lets you determine how your notes appear and behave. You'll find options for changing the note color as well as the font type, size, and color. Notes can display texts such as the date and time when you launched it. Right-clicking a note lets you access other options, including the ability to insert file, URL, or program shortcut in the note and schedule reminder alarms (with the ability to select an accompanying WAV file). Also, you can set recurring reminders and alert you by flashing the note or launching an application when it expires. Moreover, ATnotes has hot-key support, and allows you to search and organize notes into folders.

The ability to password-protect notes or choose an application or document on which they will appear would've been great. But, as is, its functionality suits busy home or business users alike. Overall, ATnotes is easy to use, effective, and best of all, free.

The best sticky-note software

Others have summarized it, so I'll just say that I'm using Version 9.41 with Windows 7. It works perfectly. I rejected Version 9.5 because it removed the "Format Lines" feature, which I use quite frequently. (Sometimes you paste something from the Internet into a note and it appears as one long line that runs off the screen. "Format Lines" fixes this.) This program has seen me through about four computers over the past 12 years. I wish I could ask Thomas Ascher why he abandoned it. I wouldn't want to be without it.

For people with lousy memories like me, or those who just require a reminder, you need look no further than this application. It's stunning. I'm amazed that there's been no revision since February 2007 - guess it's hard to improve upon perfection.

Helps keep my mind intact. Easier than real sticky notes or carrying a notebook, my appts, special phone numbers and email addresses are right on my computer desktop - impossible to lose or misplace. I've used this utility thru 3 computers!

Summary
This is a very simple and compact program that has changed my world -- no, seriously. I have problems with my memory and finding that important stuff is hard. So I just click on my ATNOTES icon and do a mind dump onto my desktop and, voila!, can't lose my note. I've been using ATNOTES since I discovered it about 10 years ago (I need to upgrade, I'm still, I just noticed, at Version 7.4). And it's one of the first things I load when I get a new computer. This is GREAT software!

Pros
Extremely simple and user friendly. The best basic, yet powerful sticky note, appointment reminder, alarm that I've ever tried. Nothing extravagant or fancy, no nonsense. It just does what you want it do. I've installed this baby on all my computers.
Cons
The only con is the fact that I have wasted my time with so many other sticky notes and reminders and only recently stumbled on this little bundle of joy !!!

I used this product for 10 years on a previous computer & wouldn't be without it. Better than Outlook in that notes set with reminder times pop up right in my face so they get noticed. Simple to create, format and size notes. Very simple & easy.
It's great! Just what I need. Thanks!

Create and manage various notes and reminders.

ATnotes is a program that creates Post-it-like notes on the Windows desktop. The user interface is provided through an icon on the taskbar. Notes are fully customizable in fonts, colors, sizes, and in many other aspects of appearance (e.g., text color and border color for each note, each setup appearance can be saved as a profile to be restored quickly). Each note can have a single or repeated alarms, with visual and audio alarm signal. Notes can be hidden until manually activated or until a specified date/time. You can minimize notes to the first line of text and restore the note size to fit the whole text. It supports opening URLs, e-mail addresses, and file shortcuts in notes with the associated program. An overview of all current notes in the note list is provided, with the features of note searching, folder organizing of notes. There is hot-key support for important functions. The program also support note sending, to other computers in a local network.
