Akeni LAN messenger is a cross-platform (Windows and Linux) instant messaging program for LAN. Akeni LAN messenger is NOT based on Winpopup. The LAN Edition does not require connection to the internet. Also with its intuitive user interface, those familiar with public IM clients such as MSN Messenger or AOL AIM, will be using Akeni like a pro in no time. Basic features include real-time private chat sessions, group conferences, presence management, file transfers and emergency alerts/notifications.

Great product. We've been able to set up conferences easily. Only a few errors when signing off but all in all a great product. Just be sure to click on More Options from the login screen once you start and enable auto signon as we couldn't input a user name

I installed the Akeni LAN messenger software on 3 computers and it automatically detected the other 2 users on the network. The user interface is easy to use and it has drag and drop features not found in other LAN based instant messenger programs.
