"Has potential but needs work!"

April 04, 2004  |  By rspress

 |  Version: pReSS 0.1.3

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This could be a great tool for generating the xml needed for RSS feeds but the program does need work. First, if you are not familiar with the RSS XML standards this program is not the place to learn. Now lets get on to what could make this a better program. As it stands this program is for those who know what they are doing and what to enter. An online rss validator (like userlands) is mandatory if you use this program!

1. A window showing the XML code being built as you update the forms in the tabbed window.

2. Better error checking. The program tends to generate RSS XML code that will not work. Of course this is due to Garbage in - Garbage Out but error checking would help the author from making lethal mistakes.

3. A more task oriented interface. As it is now enter a large amount of information for a decent size site is tedious at best.

4. Form autofill. This would be nice and save much typing for redundant entries. Use of smart pop-up menus where needed would also be a plus.

5. Large site support. An easier way of making updates to large sites or sites with many updates. This could take the form of importing text files that are tabbed, comma, etc. delimited for easier generation.

"Best on the market"

Summary

I like this, its a good first version there is nothing that can touch it at the moment. There is a lack of a readme bu the developer is right if you know RSS you dont need it. Just click News and Add to add some news. Why do we need documents for that. To load an rss feed you click load! Need I go on.

Theres a small bug with resizing but this product does what it says and does it well.

As for the price, well I just registered my copy. If you use RSS check out the competition but I'd guess you'd be back.

Download and try for yourself. It is true that there is no read-me but then if you know RSS you should not need one. There are no typo's in the licence. AS for the FAQ well it is version 0.1 and no questions have been asked yet!?!

Please form your own opinion, any CONSTRUCTIVE and THOGHTFULL comments are of course welcome.

If there is enough interest in this product documentation and improvements will be forthcoming.

"Not ready for prime time"

November 18, 2003  |  By Stephanie Mitchell

 |  Version: pReSS 0.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
As I'm looking for something to create RSS feeds, I decided to check this thing out. The installer provides neither a clue nor an option as to where the thing will get installed. There's no readme and no help (the website FAQ is useless except for the uninstall instructions). So what does all this stuff do? Can I use it for what I want? How? Not only is it not ready for prime time, it's not even ready for beta, and certainly not for $12.95 shareware. I know it's only version 0.1, but don't start charging money for it until it's production quality. I hope the glaring typos in the copied-from-boilerplate license agreement are not reflected in the coding.
