CNET Editors' review
IRC users should check out the latest release of mIRC, the shareware Internet Relay Chat client. We found mIRC 7.25 to be a capable, full-featured chat tool the last time we tried it. Since then, mIRC's developers have made a number of improvements (over 60, in fact), including improved support for running the program in portable mode on more than one PC using a file-hosting service. A few bugs have been fixed; for instance, the editbox no longer beeps endlessly when the maximum message length is reached. The SSL warning dialog has been improved, too, as has the Incremental Search feature. And you can change the Treebar's fonts from the context menu. The full-featured mIRC 7.25 is free to try for 30 days and costs $20. We ran it as a clean installation in 64-bit Windows 7.
MIRC's installation wizard offers lots of options, including automatic updates, backups, and the option to run the program as a portable application from a USB drive. You can register mIRC immediately, but the 30-day trial omits no options or features, including full access to IRC's network. The days of clunky, primitive chat apps are long gone. A clean interface, left-hand sidebar, tile or cascade window options, and other touches give mIRC a modern look and make it an easy starter for anyone who's set up a chat client before. We entered a screen name and alternative but were able to get our first choice. We clicked Continue, not Connect: first we wanted a look at mIRC's options. Opening the mIRC Options dialog showed a tree view with many configuration choices, including the improved Sounds options.
Accessing IRC via mIRC is easy. Press the Connect icon, and mIRC does the rest. It logged us on and presented a searchable (and optional) mIRC Favorites pop-up listing available channels in a huge range of topics, with Join, Add, Edit, and other commands. Most of mIRC 7.25's updates make themselves felt in the app's smooth, reliable performance. Of course, everything we liked about mIRC still applies to the new version. And the full-featured trial means no worries.

"good app. actually its a gr8 app. if u care less4safety"
Version: mIRC 7.15
Pros
it's good for learning some stuff
and meeting new people..
it's a good app. i like it a lot!!Cons
it's legacy(old age) :) aaaaaaaaaand unsafe although the application itself is safe but it can be a gateway to headaches
Summary
lots of scripts and admins(with a lots of privileges) bossing whomever they like to boss around(and that's ONLY found at mirc)
too many bots(to fill up channels mostly -> p.s. script bots are bought), and some spam bots(advertisement) aaand regular spam people :)
the application itself is safe but it's the easiest way for someone to get patched(trojans, viruses, etc...) or exposed(via IP -> if you're not using a shell -> and even if you're using one)
it lacks video, voice, etc... and sharing is anything but safe(watch out ;) ) emm it lacks protection(have a good antivirus and get some shell aaaand of course have some common sense as there are a lots of bad people out there
it's free to try but be careful as there's more than what meets the eye in mirc -> & yahoo messenger, and msn messenger and and and :P
enjoy -
"for what it is, it rocks. not overwhelming."
Version: mIRC 7.15
Pros
take it personal, take it public, small, grow it big. for friends & family, or social networking on any level. dating, entrepreneural ventures. learning ground, getta guest speaker. charge a few $$. anxietal folks, agoraphobic? whadda great idea.
Cons
there's no voice chat. even going thru an integrated VOIP like Skype has voice, even video at a minimul cost with easily accessible pay-site room(s) to own any # of lines, any # rooms per line. well-run topical chats. conference/training lines..
Summary
i've never used it. i was making it up in my above posts based on what i understood. it could be easily networked, blogged, you-tube + other social sites with the click of a button or keep it on the DL. heck, have AA meetings in there ! or Chat Line Anonymous ! (cept you'd have to go into a chatline for meetings... counterproductive? maybe) ... get married, have church services focusing on homeboud folks... guitar lessons, music or talk radio streaming, be a DJ for the cost of a simple program.. HEY ! market THAT program on the site, too !
play poker !
start a charity.
getta city magazine goin'. non-prof with an agenda that'll change that world ! (i do that, as well as my body modification shops. been considerin' takin' the distribution 100% online, my charitable venues stay in reallyworld, of course.
i infinite possibiliities, i'm guessin'.
Me? i'm just gonna meet that man of my dreams on this dealio. (don't say nothin'... that'd scare tha heck outta anyone'n run'em off)..... maybe i'll just find'ah place ta start my yearly "couch tour."
play poker !
make it easier to type in than this ilttle box that's jumpin' all over tha place... jeeeeeeez. -
