CNET Editors' review
Freeware iTunes plug-in iTunesControl gives us all a chance to improve iTunes' features by adding long-missing features.
The On-Screen Display pop-up can be customized to an amazing extent. Users can choose to have album art displayed, and can choose precisely which information about the currently playing track gets shown. But you can also choose the screen position, the size of the album art, the background color, the font, the font color, the border thickness and color, and more about the aesthetics of the OSD box. Under the Layout tab, you can cut and paste tags to change the display. Note that opting for the Outline mode will override any background color or border you've previously chosen.
You can set up to 30 different hot keys, from the basics to advanced features like track ratings, repeat mode, hide and show iTunes, and more. Users can also set the title information displayed for iTunes itself and startup and shutdown behavior for iTunes and the plug-in. Two useful options tie the plug-ins behavior to iTunes, so that when you start and close the plug-in, iTunes will also open and shut down.
The program is still in beta, but it's compatible with versions of iTunes as old as 4.6. This is a pretty neat plug-in for those of you who find yourselves addicted to iTunes.

"Features you may need, and good customizability."
Version: iTunesControl 0.40
Pros
You can set it up to be totally discreet and utilize only features that you need, as I did. Features? Half-star ratings, hotkeys (specifically to show/hide iTunes, set ratings, play/pause), on-screen track info (again, need to customize to make it look good). Fairly flexible and un-intrusive.

Cons

"Surpasses expectations! Its Ugly at first but you have to use the options!"
Version: iTunesControl 0.40
Pros
I was incredibly hesitant about downloading this. I saw it mention a good 5 or 6 times before I did. And I can say, I can't believe I waited that long. Of course it is UGLY at first but with a tweaking the options around its easy to set it to your liking. I love this program, and if you download it, don't give up on it easily! Look long and hard at the options!

"Does what it says"
Version: iTunesControl 0.40
Pros
Does what it says. Hotkey support worked just fine, I was able to use my keyboards multimedia keys with no issues (Logitech G11). Plenty of options to mess with. Worked instantly after installed.
Cons
It is NOT a plugin for iTunes. It is a separate application that has to be running in the background. There are plenty of other apps that do what this one does, but better. Not sure if they support back to 4.6, but who the hell is using 4.6?! Upgrade already.
