This full-featured steganography utility makes image encryption easy enough for the novice user. iStegano 2005's standard button and pull-down interface includes an optional animated assistant, which most testers found somewhat annoying. A traditional step-by-step wizard is also available for new users.

Program operation is not obvious, but a few moments with the Help file or a quick viewing of the tutorial is all most users will need. Since iStegano 2005 only operates on Windows bitmap files, the app includes a simple tool to convert GIF and JPEG files. The app uses simple drag-and-drop to choose the key image and files to be encrypted. The encryption key is a simple typed pass phrase. Encryption is not lightning fast, but is better than most in the genre. For each key image, a simple button click calculates how much space is available to store the encrypted files. The amount of space varies according the image.

Testers really liked how this app encrypts without changing the file's size. Color alterations and file size changes are often giveaways that data has been encrypted into an image. Decryption is just as painless an operation as encryption. At encryption, it's easy to set the app to create a full zip file of the altered image.

Program options are plentiful and easily set with iStegano. From the animated helpers to the simple and fast button interface, this app works according to your skill level. The demo limits you to 40 uses and has a 30-day time limit. Any user with a need to encrypt files into images should give this app a test.
