Publisher's description of dBpowerAmp Music Converter 11.0
From Illustrate:Often called the Swiss Army Knife of audio, dMC can digitally rip sound from audio CDs to a multitude of formats. Convert from one format to another while preserving ID tags. Nearly every audio type is supported, including MP3, MP4, Windows Media Audio (WMA), Ogg Vorbis, AAC, Monkey's Audio, and FLAC (with optional installs from Codec Central). For Windows Explorer integration, right-click Convert To and pop up useful information on audio files (such as bit rate and length). Record from LPs with Auxiliary Input.
Version 11.0 features the standard inclusion of Auxiliary Input and File Selector; a higher-quality MP3 decoder (LAME 3.96.1); support for 32-bit WAV IEEE; Unicode tagging transfers; a Power Pack trial included as standard and a license for the MP3 encoder in the trial; smart-install codecs; and new DSP effects (a graphic equalizer and dithering-down bit depth). Finally, dBpowerAmp can supply column information in Windows Explorer (much more refined than Windows standard audio columns).
dBpowerAMPs mp3 encoder (writer) is on a time limited 30-day trial license, illustrate has provided a 100% free encoder for many years, but a legal challenge (claims of patent infringement) has forced a change, the world cannot have a free mp3 encoder so it seems. illustrate must now charge for the mp3 encoding license. This license is purchased through the Power Pack license (a series of enhancements to dBpowerAMP: Faster CD Ripping, Handles Compilation CDs, Preview CDs, ID Tag Editing, DSP Sound Effects and more)...all for $14.

This mostly standard audio utility simply converts files and rips CDs, but it works without a hitch. dBpowerAmp Music Converter has separate interfaces for extracting audio from discs and batch converting tunes. In our tests, the program showed good speed. It can even rip some protected audio CDs and includes a basic player.
It queries CD information from the Web and can automatically create subfolders and name tracks. To keep the download size small, it only includes MP3 (LAME) and WAV codecs, though you can easily download and install additional components from the publisher's site. Similar to other utilities in this genre, dBpowerAmp Music Converter lets you determine the audio quality of your new files, though it also offers an ample number of presets.
Also, unlike some competing programs, this demo will let you rip or transform as many files as you like for a full month. Most people who rip and convert audio files occasionally will find something to like about dBpowerAmp Music Converter, particularly novices.

Version: dBpowerAmp Music Converter 11.0
"Essential tool for any music listeners..."
Pros: Very easy to use and install. Convert TO AND FROM MP3, WAV, and you can also convert to other audio file types (such as OGG, APE, AAC, etc) by downloading additional codec packs available at the dbpoweramp homepage. Easily set the quality settings and other attributes of the type of file you wish to convert to. Includes options to convert or edit tag of audio files and popup tips of audio file attributes integrated directly in the explorer browser, which can be disabled at any time.
Cons: Powerpack (shareware) required for editing tags and using advanced converting features in the program. Not completely freeware.
