An effective and easy-to-use firewall program, ZoneAlarm does a great job of keeping your PC safe from a variety of threats. ZoneAlarm uses a simple wizard to make configuring a firewall, which seems like a daunting task to many computer users, incredibly easy. Maintaining and updating settings also is a snap when you're using the stylish interface and its simple slider controls. The program's Zones feature allows you to assign different security levels for a local network and for the Internet.A great recent addition is small but quite helpful. A new "Game Mode" lets you automatically allow or deny alerts when you're in the middle of playing a video game. We found ZoneAlarm very good at recognizing and automatically including settings for our local network. In all our tests, the firewall guarded against all external and internal threats it encountered. ZoneAlarm is an excellent firewall choice for just about any average user.
Publisher's description
From ZoneAlarm :ZoneAlarm is designed to protect your DSL- or cable-connected PC from hackers. This program includes four interlocking security services: a firewall, an application control, an Internet lock, and Zones. The firewall controls the door to your computer and allows only traffic you understand and initiate. The application control allows you to decide which applications can and cannot use the Internet. The Internet lock blocks Internet traffic while your computer is unattended or while you're not using the Internet, and it can be activated automatically with your computer's screensaver or after a set period of inactivity. Zones monitor all activity on your computer and alert you when a new application attempts to access the Internet. Version 7.0 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
Note:ZoneAlarm is free for individual and not-for-profit charitable entity use (excluding governmental entities and educational institutions. Advanced features are available within 15-day period.

Version: ZoneAlarm 7.0
"Somewhat disappointed with version 7"
Pros: It's free and it protects well. It's made by zonelabs so you know you're getting great protection.
Cons: I'm disappointed with version 7. It seems that zonelabs added more bloat and less protection to the product. It also had some install issues. My advice is wait until the bugs are worked out of version 7 and then download it.

Version: ZoneAlarm 7.0
"Failed to install, Company failed to Help, Froze system"
Pros: The old version worked well. Cannot comment on a program that will not install.
Cons: If anything does not work right do not expect help. Pay for Support. Usergroup is worthless. Questions answer do not work. New version does not install. Froze up my system and I needed to do a system restore. I only regret that I purchased an early version 6. something. That worked but I was unable or prevented from reinstalling the old version.

Version: ZoneAlarm 7.0
Pros: Works efficiently, does what is supposed to do, easy configurable and with loads of options and great features.
Cons: Ridiculously high use of RAM and CPU. 200mb of RAM used at all times, duplicated processes allocated in memory and most annoyingly, constantly using 100% of processor.
I thought my pc was clumsy with Norton equivalent products, but not this much, even opening a simple text file became slow. Not good then, uh?

Version: ZoneAlarm 7.0
"Works well--is more bloated than previous though"
Pros: ZoneAlarm I acquired after Blaster hit. If I had had it, I may have not gotten infected. Hence, the importance of a firewall that can block inbound and outbound traffic. Version 7 is pretty good although it adds a little more bloat.
Cons: The installer if you just want version 7.0 standalone firewall is a whopping 38MB. It is likely due to it includes the whole suite but you can then pick just to install the firewall. They need to include the firewall installer by itself, hopefully it would chunk it down to just 13MB perhaps.
