An effective and easy-to-use firewall program, ZoneAlarm does a great job of keeping your PC safe from a variety of threats. ZoneAlarm makes configuring a firewall, which sounds like a daunting task to the majority of computer users, incredibly easy with a wizard. Maintaining and updating settings also is a snap when you're using the stylish interface and its simple slider controls. The program's Zones feature also allows you to assign different security levels for a local network and for the Internet. We found ZoneAlarm very good at recognizing and automatically including settings for our local network. In all our tests, the firewall guarded against all external and internal threats it encountered. Therefore, we think ZoneAlarm is an excellent firewall choice for just about any average user. "Decent Firewall, seen better though"

Pros
Installs well, uninstalls ok, does what it is designed to do to an extent, it doesn't have a learning feature like Norton, which is very dangerous.
Cons
Resource hog, needs to be more user friendly, still haven't figured out how to make it work with Xbox Live through ICS. I heard there was a hole in the firewall that Zonelabs refuses to fix on the free version.

my computer: PIV 2.6 Ghz 512Mb(RAM) XP
1)it protects you from intrusions just like other commercial firewalls.
2)it detects programs trying to access the net and asks you if you the program is trustworthy, then it will allow the said program.
3)the controls are adjustable. you can set which program can access/can't access the net. (just like other expensive firewall)
4)gives mail protection. (basic)
5)monitors your anti-virus program
6)free
7)unlike Norton i-net security/firewall, this one is a speed bird. it doesn't hog your resources that much. far from comparison with the junky Norton.
Cons
1) some say it slows down their PC, but my computer(defined above) didn't slowed down too much. Okay, it is normal for any firewall program to load quite a minute and thats fast enough. the startup speed has decreased--but hey, a 30 second decrease is very,very decent.
2) the only major downside I guess would be the incompatibility issue with AVAST! anti-virus free edition. zonealarm doesn't detect my AVAST!. AVAST! makes up by informing that they are on the negotiations with zonelabs to fix this. this firewall *may* interupt with the "Webshield" function of AVAST! so you must reconfigure AVAST! if you are using it with this firewall.
that is all that I have noticed using this product for about 12 days. FINAL WORD: HIGHLY RECOMMENDABLE AND PRACTICAL against other expensive junky firewalls.

Product worked fine once I fixed the problem of losing internet connection all the time.
Cons
Upon reading all the revues the biggest problem was losing internet connection all the time. After 6 months of same problem I solved the problem. To solve this open Zone Alarm and open firewall, in there you will find two settings. Internet zone and trust zone. Leave trust zone on medium. Go ahead and change internet zone from high to medium. Once you do this your connection problems should be solved. If this works for any of you please reply and let me know. GOOD LUCK
