"Worst piece of software ever!"
Version: ZoneAlarm Pro 2012
Pros
None - not a single good thing about this product
Cons
Quickly makes any computer that it's installed on worthless!!
Summary
I was a HUGE Zone Alarm fan and used it to protect every PC in my house for almost 10 years. It was simply the best firewall and threat protection software on the market and worth every penny. It was easily configurable for novice computer users, but also had plenty of advanced configuration options for more advanced users. In ONE single release (v10 - 2012), it is now the WORST software on the market. Get it together Check Point, you just lost another customer!

"Pure Junk, will break most Windows Systems"
Version: ZoneAlarm Pro 2012
Pros
Absolutely NONE, I would give it a ZERO Star rating but it doesn't appear that it's possible to do that.
Cons
Horribly broken installation, Unprofessional interface, Worthless as a personal firewall, bears no resemblance to what used to be arguably the best firewall available.
Summary
I HAD been a ZoneAlarm user since it first hit the market over 10 years ago.
What CheckPoint has done to what used to be a stellar application should be considered a criminal offense.
It is an insult to the millions of loyal customers.
This setup is horribly broken. The app itself does not work as advertised and will hose your system.
It is as if a used-car salesman become the product manager at Check-Point.
The person in charge of this update should be fired IMMEDIATELY
Avoid ZoneAlarm at all costs. It is PURE JUNK.
As a professional developer I find the fact that CNET allows this for download inexcusable.
I must now question the validity in ANYTHING that CNET says.
I have now switched to Comodo.
CheckPoint has blown it BIG TIME with this version.
SO far, they don't appear to care that this newest version of the Firewall is pure junk.
Customer service is nonexistent.
Support is impossible as their Web Chat doesn't work and they don't allow new users to post on their forums.
Support is limited to a 67 year old SysAdmin in Texas.
I'm not joking, this is absolute truth.
Yeah, I'm sure a 67 year old is really up on current software and technology. <rollingeyes> -

"Do NOT buy Zone Alarm."
Version: ZoneAlarm Pro 2012
Pros
Prior year's programs were acceptable.
Cons
Current version is unacceptable.
Summary
I have used Zone Alarm for almost two years but their latest update slowed my computer to a CRAWL! I spent almost 1.5 hours on LiveChat with two different "customer service" reps but with no resolution. Neither rep showed any interest in solving the problem. I had to tell them multiple times what version I was on, my computer OS, even my chip speed. The most suggestions they made was reset defaults and then reinstall. So 1980's.
They had a variety of excuses ranging from my version was not the latest - but their update program installed it - to they must have downloaded to me a dial-up version. Huh?
Their chat system was horrible - giving me constant erroneous canned comments and the reps saying they were not getting my responses.
The reps showed no customer service care and no technical expertise.
I asked for my money back under their advertised guarantee but they said I did not qualify.
I called my local internet provider and numerous members of that staff said they hear complaints regularly about Zone Alarm. They had me unistall Zone Alarm and install AVG Free. Now my computer is back to its old self and I am happy!
I hope to save someone else from going through my unacceptable experience. -

4. Gaming mode feature.
5. Light weight .. making the system perform faster and bugs-free.Cons

It is a major advancement of the previous version.
1. Has all the important settings which are located under 'advance settings' .
2.. Can Permanently disable useless programs from running.
3. All the Features are categorized into their particular groups, so finding and making the right settings should not be a difficulty at all.
(I can see some people have jumped to the conclusion that version 2012 is a waste of time n money, but its not, try looking around for some more time. N u'll find everything, its all there, but havre been further classified,so that novice users don't get confused)
4. It has a neat look n feel.
ZoneAlarm Pro 2012 is a perfect and ideal Firewall solution.
A Must Have program for any type of users, engineers and specialists.
Has been my favorite security software since 2006 -
"Who in God's name gave this a good rating?"
Version: ZoneAlarm Pro 2012
Pros
None. This doesn't work well at all.
Cons
I would count the ways this is a piece of c--p, but others are doing it for me. But, let me just say that somehow or other it changed my settings for wireless home network and even after uninstall and system restore, had to reset router.
Summary
Oh please do not download this one unless you are a glutton for punishment. And as TWB404 I have been using zonealarm since I bought my 1st computer in Jun/2001 and zonealarm pro since about 6 months later. Sometimes had problems early on and then later more problems, so finally went back to the free, since why should I pay for something I'm not satisfied with? Thought I'd wait until the 2012/10., but I am HIGHLY disappointed with this.

"2012/v10 edition is truly terrible & is buggy as well!"
Version: ZoneAlarm Pro 2012
Pros
Sincerely, I cannot think of any at all, at least in comparison to the previous version.
Cons
(1): The installer completely ignores some of the options you select, and you can't stop it from re-installing it even after removing it manually. (2): Worst of all, they chose to remove the "Stop All Internet Activity" feature, an appalling error!
Summary
Avoid this version at all costs! Stick with the previous version.

"It does not compare to previous version"
Version: ZoneAlarm Pro 2012
Pros
None, I was totally disappointed.
Cons
Everything about this new version was a disappointment.
Summary
I tried the new Pro version last night and here is what happened. During the install, change destination folder did not work. It installed the security toolbar even tho I had unchecked the box telling it not to. After rebooting here is what I found. The OS firewall is just a shell of what it use to be. The window where you can change program access will not maximize, will not go full screen. It does not have the OS firewall trust level settings. I got no alerts from the OS firewall when booting like previous version. They are giving internet access automatically to programs without alerting you they are trying to access the internet like the previous versions. My browser and chat program got auto access, so did one update program. No alerts what so ever. I got no server alerts at all. My messenger program always gave me an alert that it was trying to setup server rights version 10 issued no alerts. No new network found feature. That was not that important for LAN but on wireless connection that was one of it selling point. They took out the ability to turn off auto update. Well at least I could not find it in preferences. I could go on and on but if you liked the way the old version worked your going to find this a stripped down version that does not come close to what it use to do for you. If version 9.3, on a rating scale of 1 to 10, was a 10 to you your going to find this to be a -1. I think this release will haunt them more then when they released version 6 and 7. Just so everyone understands, I have been using ZoneAlarm since the late 90s, so I have some experience with the version they have released.
I think is fair to say that if you upgrade to 2012 v10 you will be downgrading to less features and protection.
Updated on Jun 11, 2011
Updated on Jun 16, 2011Some say this is a light weight version in an attempt to sell this new version. What ZoneAlarm did was dropped many of the feature that made it the firewall it once was, the king of the hill. If you had previous version and was familiar with the programs control window ( now application control ) and compared the 2 you would see what is missing. The application control window in 2012v10 can not be maximized ( made to go full screen ) making it difficult to even see these changes. That is just one of many things previous user will find missing when they upgrade ( it really is a downgrade ). The best way of describing it, is to say they gutted the old version, took away a lot of your ability to customize your setting. They also found away of using the cloud for justifying a firewall phoning home. A firewall does not need to phone home. Once you have set what is and what is not suppose to have access to the internet then it should just do its job without help from the cloud.
