There choices other than ZoneAlarm and CheckPoint!
Cons
This is MalWare and ShoveWare! I take offense to any software which installs components I do not want without permission. Tech Support for ZoneAlarm is useless and will drain your System Resources without meaningful benefit. I had used ZoneAlarm as paid user since version 2x; the destruction of the product as viable Security SoftWare became complete with version 10x. I have removed ZoneAlarm from all systems I support and have BlackListed CheckPoint as a Company.

Pros
The only pro I can think of is the relative flashiness of the UI and installer. This, however, presents it's own problems (discussed later on).
Cons
This program is riddled with bugs, and the UI has been simplified to the point where, if advanced controls exist, I was unable to find them. Furthurmore, a lot of the customizable options for more fine-tuned based control have been removed (or are hidden somewhere where they aren't so obvious). Zone alarm was great before, I am not sure what passed through the developer's minds with this.
Summary
I thank the virgin mother herself that I somehow still have the old setup file and was able to downgrade my version.

Screws up your system right royally and even if you revert to an older version you will not totally get rid of the problems.
Summary
As a very long time user of Zonealarm Pro I was dumb enough to upgrade to the new version. What a disaster. Days and days and days of misery.
Avoid it at all costs as it is a dog. -

It protects with inbound and outbound protection that Windows Firewall and some other Firewalls do not.Hint...If you don't like this version and want a good working one go to olderversions.com and get and older version of ZoneAlarm.I have been using it for 7 years and it has saved my hide more than once blocking inbound attempts to my computer.Older versions also have the logs so you can see what tried to inter your computer.They also let you use stealth mode.

Summary
I still use ZoneAlarm but use and older version that still works great and blocked several inbound attempts a couple of nights ago from a hacker.It already knows and shows what programs I have allowed.It has inbound and outbound protection.Windows Firewall does not have outbound protection.

1. Slows machine down badly.
2. Vegas wouldn't take odds against the average 12 year old hacking this firewall without taking time for a sip of Redbull.
3. This program does not have sufficient options to provide any real level of security.
4. It considers almost any program on you computer that connects to the internet to be a threat. Which means it has a lot of false negative and an inexperienced user is going to end up having to uninstall the program just to connect to the internet.Summary
Don't waste your time, there are much better free programs out there. Comodo firewall and Online Armor are a few.

Eats lots of resources, it's full of bugs, the interface was horribly murdered.
Summary
Thanks for this version, it was the first ZoneAlarm bad enough to make me switch to another firewall. I have Comodo now and internet transfers are MUCH faster. And not just compared to the latest ZoneAlarm version, I'm having the same internet line for over a year, and I didn't even know how fast it was until I got rid of that disease from Check Point. So it's not just the latest version.
Looks like ZoneAlarm slowed down with each Check Point, and now it just passed the last one and it's going to its finish line. -

zone alarm used to be good. Now, they might want us to buy their full version for better experience.
This version is certainly a bug release!Summary
Though aren't many choices available in free firewall's. Nonetheless there are other alternatives like pc tools firewall free, though not the best but it's better than zone alarm. Comodo is also good.
