CNET Editors' review
This nifty freeware executable simply unzips files and folders to your chosen directory and adds an uninstall shortcut as a bonus. Zipinstaller's two-step wizard opens a pair of very basic dialog boxes that contain easy to set check boxes, radio buttons, and pull-down menus. Novice users could pick up this app in minutes.
Operating ZipInstaller is as easy as click and choose. The wizard opens with the common file browse menu to choose the zip file to be decompressed. The final step displays a slightly more crowded interface. Choose a destination directory, click a radio button to decide who'll see the folder, and click check boxes to set some options.
Press the Install button and a few seconds later you have a new installation, Start Menu shortcut, and an uninstall shortcut that will reverse the process. Testers discovered the app had trouble creating shortcuts for some zip files with sub-folders.
There is the rare archive that doesn't include an installation component. Zipinstaller solves that problem with simple ease. Novices to expert users will have the occasional need to use this very helpful freeware.
Publisher's Description
From NirSoft Freeware:
The ZipInstaller utility installs and uninstalls programs and utilities that do not provide an internal installation application. It automatically extracts all files from the Zip file, copies them to the destination folder you select, creates shortcuts in the start menu and in your desktop, and adds an uninstall module to allow you to automatically remove the software in the future. "time saver, work saver Indeed"
Version: ZipInstaller 1.21
Pros
The answer to my time-consuming task of installing a lot of zipped programs with no installers. Salute to the programmer.
Cons
It has an option "Add ZipInstaller to the context menu of ZIP files".That's a GREAT THING. The BAD,however,is that if I already have a lot of stuff installed in my system, that right click menu item somehow gets disabled no matter how I re-enable it.
Summary
If you're using this, I suggest you also install **FileBox eXtender** or similar program that has the "Click-switch file box folder" sort of feature
--with it, if you are on an open dialog box (such as Save As, Open, Import, etc.) and you click on another Windows Explorer folder (or even any window), the location on that dialog box switches to that which you have clicked. -
"Time Saver, Work Saver"
Version: ZipInstaller 1.21
Pros
If like me you test and use a lot of freeware software (without installer, uninstaller support) this handy little program installs the software, adds shortcuts to start menu and desktop,(if required)and an uninstaller. It's great for adding portable software to your USB devices.
