Get social over the long-established, well-rounded chat and VoIP client Yahoo Messenger and you'll find drag-and-drop capabilities and contact importing from friends other IM, e-mail, and social-networking accounts who are also on Yahoo chat. Another favorite trick is the ability to see images and videos displayed inside the chat window when you or a pal drops in a public URL.
Yahoo Messenger 10 adds some visual enhancements that call out VoIP and video chats on the conversation window. Tweaks in the buddy list showcase an updates tab that operates as a newsfeed for friends' status messages. Other visual refreshes to version 10 spruce up select icons.
Users should note that the download stub will finish installing the program online, and that the download bundles the Yahoo Toolbar. In the preinstallation window, click over to Custom Install to deselect add-ons you don't want. We could also live without the heavy-handed Yahoo branding, and it would be nice to see a link to hidden smileys in the emoticon drop-down, but these are minor niggles when weighed against the benefits of an easy-to-use, feature-rich chat client that only continues to improve.

It also can alert you to new e-mail in your Yahoo Mail or Yahoo Personals accounts, or when you have upcoming events recorded in your Yahoo Calendar. Yahoo Messenger offers firewall support, a standby mode that minimizes the program until an Internet connection is made, the ability to save and print your conversations, and a tabbed interface that provides quick access to your favorite stocks, news, and sports scores.
Other features include the ability to create a chat room automatically, stock price alerts, the ability to send messages to friends (even if they're not online when you are), a Quick Compact mode that hides the Messenger tools to maximize your viewing area, Messenger Themes, and voice chat, which allows you to talk for free to anybody else on the Internet. It also includes Launchcast Radio, Yahoo Games, and Yahoo Audibles. Using a Webcam, you can see who you're chatting with or view the Webcam of any Yahoo member who has granted you access.

Still Yahoo,free,fun to use when it works

As soon as you try to connect for a computer call it drops out so its very hard to hear and then when you turn it up you hear background sounds so loud it hurts. I have had alot of script errors also with this version.

I have tried other messengers in the past but I like Yahoo the best,I just wish they would go back to 10 since it worked great!

There doesnt seem to be any improvements from the last version.

Sizing of the webcams in video chat requires resizing of the window for the two cams to fit the window if the window has benn resized to full screen from partial screen EVERY TIME cams are restarted. This happens frequently when one or the other keeps dropping maybe due to a weak signal. The chat continues to work but the cams often freee requiring restarting the video chat. Also the spacing above and below the cams makes the cam viewing area smaller.
Summary
The older version did not have the issue with having to resize the window from partial screen to full screen for the cam images to fit properly. This new version is a lot of effort to use in full screen unless it is closed and opened again in full screen. Even then sometimes the size of the webcams are not correct. i am using window xp pro on a laptop with 1,8 GHz processor and 1.8 gb memory.

I have been using Yahoo Messenger for almost 10 years now and they never cease to amaze me in how well they develop new versions. It seems like once they make the beta they have all of the bugs already worked out. It now accepts virtually all types of webcams and works with all OS. I am able to transfer relatively large files, share photos, play games, as well as customize everything so that it works for me. You can also choose to simply view your chatmate's webcam or go into a voice call or even go into a full on video call where the image quality is awesome providing both have a fast internet connection. If there were more stars here, Yahoo Messenger would by far take them all, in my opinion.
