Yahoo Messenger 9 retains all the voice, chat, and drag-and-drop capabilities of its predecessors, and adds a lot more visual pizazz and some key functionality. One biggie feature is contact importing, which scours your other IM, e-mail, and social-networking accounts for friends that are also signed up on Yahoo IM. You can then ask some or all of your friends to add you and can invite others to sign up. Another favorite new trick is the ability to see images and videos displayed inside the chat window when you or a pal drops in a public URL.
Other notable changes include the visual skin picker to switch up the look, and Pingbox, a chat window site owners can embed to chat with visitors in real time. Users should note that the download stub will finish installing the program online, and that the download bundles the Yahoo Toolbar. In the preinstallation window, click over to Custom Install to deselect add-ons you don't want. We could also live without the heavy-handed Yahoo branding, and it would be nice to see a link to hidden smileys in the emoticon drop-down, but these are minor niggles when weighed against the benefits of an easy-to-use, feature-rich chat client that only continues to improve.

"One of the worst messenger clients ever"

The only original thing that they have are audibles
Cons
Eats most of your system resources just to run it in background
No normal (Windows) theme available for the app, just the themes that they let you choose.
Takes a lot of space on lower resolutions because of the adds.Summary
Guys, if you need to talk to people that use Yahoo, you can get Pidgin that works on any protocol, this if you really don't need the audibles or the avatars. This program eats to much of my resources for a messaging program that should be unnoticeable in the background.

There is no way to separate so that only your online contacts show in the list as MSN does, other than creating a list of all the people I know for a fact are always on.
Summary
There is not much selection as far as themes, colour choices, fonts, etc. The transfer of files, pictures, etc. is relatively quick, so that part is acceptable. Overall, I find the messenger to be quite plain. I would prefer more choices as to colours of my windows, including separate colours depending on who I am speaking to, and also themes to choose from for the main window. Finally, I would really prefer to not have to scroll through my entire list of contacts to see if someone is on-line or to send them a message. This can easily be remedied as other messenger programs have already figured out.

I can easily send voicemails to my friend's e-mail address FREE. Free PC-to-PC calls. Free to send SMS directly from YM. Nice webcam. Instant messaging, games, etc. Hangs very SELDOMLY. Even on low quality or old computers! Compact/light!
Cons
The cam is a bit slow. There are times when YM freezes. But the pros really make up for it.

I've been using this for 5 years already and it keeps getting better and better!
