This latest version of Yahoo Messenger with voice capabilities is a step up from the already impressive older versions, and a must-download for regular users of YIM. The most notable update is the integration of messaging services with Windows Live, a process that allows you to add Windows Live users as simply as your Yahoo buddies. While this new feature isn't nearly as interoperable as Trillian, the plus side is users can still enjoy the lively emoticons and avatars, the extensive plug-in library developers can contribute to, and VoIP services exclusive to the Yahoo experience. Users should be forewarned that the download stub will finish installing the program online, and that the download includes bundled software that may install unwanted programs. In the preinstallation window, click over to custom install to deselect the extra browser services such as the Yahoo toolbar. We could also live without the all-consuming corporate sponsorship of the IMVironments and the heavy-handed branding in the avatar section (who uses those, anyway?), and it would be nice to see a link to hidden smileys in the emoticon drop-down, but these are minor niggles when weighed against the benefits of a user-friendly, feature-rich chat client that only continues to improve.

Publisher's description
From Yahoo :Yahoo Messenger is a free service that allows you to see when friends come online and to send them instant messages. It also can alert you to new e-mail in your Yahoo Mail or Yahoo Personals accounts, or when you have upcoming events recorded in your Yahoo Calendar. Yahoo Messenger offers firewall support, a standby mode that minimizes the program until an Internet connection is made, the ability to save and print your conversations, and a tabbed interface that provides quick access to your favorite stocks, news, and sports scores. Other features include the ability to create a chat room automatically, stock price alerts, the ability to send messages to friends (even if they're not online when you are), a Quick Compact mode that hides the Messenger tools to maximize your viewing area, Messenger Themes, and voice chat, which allows you to talk for free to anybody else on the Internet. It also includes Launchcast Radio, Yahoo Games, and Yahoo Audibles. Using a Webcam, you can see who you're chatting with or view the Webcam of any Yahoo member who has granted you access.
Version 8.0 adds PC-to-PC and PC-to-Phone calling, compatibility with Windows Live (MSN) Messenger, direct access to Yahoo! 360 friends, and a slew of plug-ins to customize your experience and access news, weather, stock quotes, and movie trailers
Note: The Download Now link leads to a small setup file which should be saved to your desktop. Initiate the file and follow the directions to download the rest of the program and begin the installation process. Remain connected to the Internet to complete installation.

Version: Yahoo Messenger with Voice 8
"I agree there is some added JUNK, but overall its the same Yahoo IM we all love"
Pros: Its free.
It has a fresh interface which smokes AIM 5.9 and AIM Triton's in that department.
Supports filesending, photosharing, voice chat, etc.
Seems to be a bit more robust, allowing more connections behind firewalls and routers and such.
Cons: Includes optional Yahoo Toolbar. I think it has always included this. I just think they should remove it. Ill have to check to see if MSN tries to get you to install MSN toolbar, but I know AOL asks to install AOL Toolbar with AIM 5.9.
Comes with advertisement at the bottom of the main buddy list window. There is no option in the preferences to remove it. The only way to remove it is by modification of a registry entry...very simple.

It is still the awesome Yahoo IM client contrary to what everyone says on here. I really havent experienced any connection or speed issues associated with it. Yes, it does show a large memory footprint, but which OFFICIAL IM CLIENT doesnt? I say official because I am aware that there are non-official clients which have small memory footprints. I just love the photosharing features...and the cool interface. It is a winner. The only real negative is that AOL IM is such a dominant network in terms of the USA that great clients like Yahoo IM never really get the limelight here in the USA.

Version: Yahoo Messenger with Voice 8
"The MSN/YAHOO is great once you get it to work"
Pros: at YM: Sign up to the beta by using the link that appears on your YM.
at MSN: goto live.ideas.com and sign up at the upper right.
You MUST have YM8 and MSN LIVE to get this to work!
Cons: no documentation to get this YM/MSN to work. Took me 2 nights!

Version: Yahoo Messenger with Voice 8
Cons: Comes bundled with annoying toolbar. Ads still show up. There are a bunch of useless tabs which makes the program consume more bandwidth and CPU usage. As for voice, try googletalk instead (free, no ads & clean cut).
