"NO STARS!!! A Once Great Service Is Now Dead!"

    February 27, 2014  |   By sounddude51

    Version: Yahoo Mail

    Pros

There are no pros with Yahoo anymore!

    Cons

    Everything!

Yahoo is quickly being killed by their management. Their web hosting is the worst online. Their once great email client is gone!

    Summary

Don't even consider using anything associated with the name Yahoo! As the many other reviews here have said, they are history.

They were my first email address in 1997. I have used them since, along with server based email, Gmail and AOL. No more.

Every time Thunderbird tries to check my Yahoo mail account, it chokes. In going to Yahoo, the reason it chokes is because now I'm required to enter a Captcha, every single time to check my mail. This just happened in January 2014 after 15 years of use!

I will be saving all of my email to my computer and then discontinuing all Yahoo activity. As another reviewer mentioned, I suspect that Yahoo is after money. If you spend money of their Premium email service, I just bet you don't have to enter in the Captchas.

Bye bye Yahoo! You were the best at one time. Now you are the worst...and are history!

    "Yahoo is not for Professionals"

    February 10, 2014  |   By threeactformula

    Version: Yahoo Mail

    Pros

It is average when it works.

    Cons

It never works, too many ads that slow down your browser, the biggest con is now I have to change everything I ever did with Yahoo to Google (Gmail) because I can no longer take the amateur/ unreliable performance of Yahoo. Yahoo should just become a useless web story blog filled with useless ads & popups.

    Cons

all my old emails are on it using for last 5 years, and now I'll have to move them if I want to save them

"From the email leader to the toilet in 1yr!"

    January 20, 2014  |   By camelshake

    Version: Yahoo Mail

    Pros

I honestly have nothing good to say about yahoo email.

    Cons

    Slow
    Buggy
    Filled with Errors
    Lack of security
    Spam
    Too many ads
    Heard enough?

    Summary

I've had my yahoo email address since 1999 or 2000. I used to be proud to be part of the yahoo family. I have a lot of brand loyalty with the service and products I use. For the last two years it's truly been unbearable. The email application is AWFUL! I held on as long as I could. Yahoo just simply has not responded to there loyal user customer feedback. (They should have learned this lesson from Blackberry). My account has been hacked over 10 times this past year, tons of errors, slow laggy performance, loaded with ads. After 15yrs, I jumped ship to Microsoft!! Best decision I ever made! Sorry Yahoo but keep this up and you'll be reporting some serious losses soon!!

"PURE JUNK....Just a portal for Yahoo Ads and Spam."

    December 11, 2013  |   By lot812

    Version: Yahoo Mail

    Pros

NONE! Cnet Needs To Review the NEW Yahoo and UPDATE their recommendations of Yahoo email. They will see that it is now,Junk.

    Cons

ADS galore. Can not use the email for the all the ads and pop ups and intransigent ads that are sent to you by Yahoo.

    Summary

Save yourself some headaches and stay away from Yahoo. I tried the paid yahoo some time ago and had issues with it, too.
If you have Yahoo email....best to find one that is usable and user friend and not just a portal for ads.
Yahoo email is now call SPAM MAIL and YOU CAN NOT STOP THE Ads from Yahoo.
Appears the lady the took it over, wants to get rid of Yahoo email for the public.

"Used to be good, now crap"

    December 4, 2013  |   By an-ti-nea

    Version: Yahoo Mail

    Pros

The Yahoo! Mail version that was available from the summer 2013 until October 8 2013 was a great product. I was very happy with the ability to quickly sort my mails in folders and the use of tabs for composing mails while being able to access other mails.

    Cons

The Yahoo! Mail version forced upon users since October 8 2013 is slow, full of bugs, it's much too focused on looks, but not on functionality.
Useful functions such as tabs and sorting options were removed.
Even paying users have to deal with advertisements in their inboxes.
The "dashing looks" are annoying and impossible to switch off in favour of a neutral, high-contrast background.
The editing functions for emails were counterintuitively moved to the bottom of the screen.
It takes much more clicks than before to do simple things such as print.
The normal right-click menu of the browser is overruled by a custom Yahoo menu which doesn't offer functions I want.
It's impossible to add attachments to new mails. It's impossible to print attachments from received emails.
I just want to cry everytime I have to use my mail.

    Summary

The new version of Yahoo! Mail launched October 8th 2013 is horrible. Yahoo is trying to copy Gmail but in all the wrong ways. I liked Yahoo because is WASN'T Gmail and Hotmail, and I stuck with it since 1998. Now they're trying to be more like Gmail and turn a good product into a crappy and buggy one.

Never before have I felt the need to send feedback to a website offering me a free service, but sheer frustration drove me to a feedback forum. I found I wasn't the only one, there were soooooo many people complaining (in panic becasue their business depends on their Yahoo mailbox) including an official petition to request the old version (or at least some functionalities of the old version) back.
However, Yahoo chooses to ignore the 100,000+ people who have bothered to contact them to ask for help, giving only an automated answer "thanks for your feedback, we will take it into careful consideration". Yeah right.
The users themselves have helped eachother with workarounds to old versions of Yahoo, however Yahoo has been systematically shutting down all possible workaraounds.

The sheer arrogance of this attitude of Yahoo is immensely annoying and frankly, a bit offensive. It has made me bitter and sarcastic about a free webservice. It feels as if I should be sorry for my ungratefulness, because what they offer is free. Nonetheless, I USED to click their advertisements just to support Yahoo but now I see no reason.

As a faithful user of 15 years I am leaving Yahoo! Mail because of this new unescapable version of October 8 2013. I am done with Yahoo.

"Hard to give it even half a star"

    December 3, 2013  |   By cheyanne730

    Version: Yahoo Mail

    Pros

    None, nada, zip

    Cons

Had a mail plus account which I have now cancelled and am in the midst of the tedious task moving everything to another provider. Sad to say, this mail service which was once a great product, is now the worst. Go to any yahoo feedback forum and see the number of complaints and no one at yahoo is listening.

    Summary

There is really nothing good to be said about the yahoo brand PERIOD. They have mucked up pretty much anything that was ever good about the product, email, home page, groups, flickr. Time to say buh, bye yahoo!

    "New Yahoo Mail is HORRID."

    November 25, 2013  |   By statscouter

    Version: Yahoo Mail

    Pros

Free - which sets a really low bar. Sad that I have to give even 1 star.

    Cons

The "Clean, intuitive interface" that was being raved about by the media (Yahoo itself) - is buggy, cumbersome, counter intuitive, and destroys the most effective and efficient features of the older version. Multitasking is nearly non existent with the demise of tabs, which now limits a user to one email open at a time ("Recent" feature is grossly insufficient). Interface is buggy, and hangs trying to move from email to email in multiple browsers. Deleting email will result in varied, slow behaviors from the application. New locations for formatting bar (now at bottom), and next and previous require additional mouse movement all over the screen. Advertising slowing down the interface far more than before. Autosave and Drafts are extremely cumbersome, generating many more unintended draft emails than ever before. I used to be a Yahoo mail plus user, have discontinued that, and am about to end

    Summary

Great way to alienate a captive user group. I am ending a 10 year run with my yahoo mail account due to the most recent changes. I have been a yahoo plus user for most of that time, but current interface is not worth the money or the headache of dealing with the buggy, random interface whose only selling point is from someone's adoration of "design" as art... someone selling the emperor some new clothes. Now the question - how long before the emperor realizes her folly, whether she fires the new tailors, and restores a wardrobe that works. Hopefully before Yahoo is deemed irrelevant. I loved the efficient, productive Yahoo!mail - I got a lot done, and it worked very well. No longer.

"Not worth the trouble - TOO many errors and cumbersome!"

    November 19, 2013  |   By karlstar1

    Version: Yahoo Mail

    Pros

Enables accessing your email account from any system

    Cons

Years ago, yahoo offered a reliable, relatively easy to use mail experiences with a minimum of advertising, attachment virus scanning and other features. This has LONG since changed. The new version (2 new versions in the past year) is cumbersome, NON-intuitive and full of adverts and a great deal of ERROR messages when trying to access the account from a portable device or even your console/laptop computer. It's a headache!

    Summary

I would not recommend this software to anyone who currently has any other web-based email program (such as gmail or hotmail). Stick to what you have!
