Publisher's description
From Xvid :XviD is an open source MPEG-4 video codec designed for everyone. Its purpose is to compress video in order to allow for faster transmission over computer networks or for more efficient storage on computer disks. Hence, XviD can somewhat be seen as a ZIP archive for video. XviD removes information from video that is not important for human perception in order to achieve very high compression rates while still keeping very good visual quality. XviD is published under the GNU GPL license. That means it can be obtained free of charge. And since XviD is open-source software, everyone can review the XviD source code to check for himself that nothing malicious is included.

Version: XviD Video Codec 1.1.2
Cons: I'd be ever so careful with this piece of work... This comes from the same people that brought you NSIS Media. The domain name xvidcodec.net is listed under the same person as nsismedia.net and their website (xvidcodec.net/blog/) even links to NSIS Media's malware upgrade distribution site - msserv.net.
I couldn't yet find any malware in the download itself, but I have no doubt it'll come or is already there.
Download the real xvid from xvid.org.
Bottom line: AVOID THIS DOWNLOAD AT ANY COST.

"Good alternative to DivX codec"
Pros: The xvid codec is an excellent alternative to the DivX codec which is available to download with a whole bunch of crapware. If you just want to watch videos encoded with divx or xvid then this is the one for you.
The encoding aspect of this codec is not bad either. The tests at doom9 suggests that the encoding speed and quality surpasses that of DivX codec. However, the tests are a little old and newer versions of DivX and XviD have since come out.
Cons: N/A
