This free program provides a number of helpful tools for working with digital photos. XnView's pane interface shouldn't disorient most users, as it uses a tree-like structure to let you view your shots and browse your music collection. Our lone complaint on this front is that the more complex effects and filters aren't accessible via the main window and require you to double-click a shot before you can use them. Besides standard tools for rotating images and renaming files in bulk, this app also can convert pics among a wide variety of formats. In addition, you'll find tools for capturing screenshots and creating basic slide shows, as well as a simple audio player. We were excited to see a utility for generating Web galleries, but we quickly despaired when we couldn't get it to work. Still, we recommend XnView to digital photographers who already have a first-class editing program.Publisher's description
From XnView :XnView is a fast multi-format graphics browser, viewer, and converter. It can read more than 400 file formats, e.g. gif, bmp, jpeg, png, targa, multipage tiff, camera RAW, jpeg 2000, mpeg, Avi, Quicktime. EXIF & IPTC metadata are also supported. The image viewer has an Explorer-like browser that allows quick and simple browsing of directory contents. XnView supports red eye correction, crops and transforms JPG images losslessly, generates HTML pages and contact sheets, and provides batch conversion and batch renaming. Slide shows with transitions effects, screen capturing, WIA & TWAIN support (scanner & digital cameras), image comparison, file operations, and more can be performed easily with this universal graphics tool.
Version 1.82.2 adds Folders with thumbnails, sending images via e-mail, better IPTC/EXIF handling.

Version: XnView 1.82.3
Pros: I have not been let down by this product over the years of use. I first downloaded it because it was free and "actually runs on Windows 95". I keep downloading it because there's no reason to look elsewhere for image viewing and the few times I need to manipulate images. It's no photoshop, but it does have a lot of filters and ways to manipulate colours. It handles a whack of different file types. And the main reason I am not bothering to use any other program: it opens images for viewing quickly, on both my XP and 95 systems. I am exceedingly impressed with this program, and then they go and impress me further by making frequent updates. Way to go Xnview developers!!
Cons: I really, honestly, haven't found anything in the years I've been using it. I vaguely recall encountering some minor bugs, maybe twice in that whole time, but each time I just went to download.com and checked for a new version, and there was one. I can't even remember what the bugs were because they never happened again. I'm here again today downloading the latest version (I had 1.80.3) and decided I may as well share the good fortune I've had with this lovely program. Oops, is this the "CONS" section? Sorry, this should've been left blank! :)

Version: XnView 1.82.3
Pros: As a batch converter, XNVIEW is about as good as it gets when considering ease of use, speed, and flexibility.
Cons: Cataloging and multimedia features are weaker areas- but these are not the program's focus.
