XXCloneE copies the whole Windows NT, 2000, or XP system volume to another disk that will be ready to boot without a restore step. You may boot the system from the clone volume when disaster strikes. Interface is a little confusing, and BADLY in need of a facelift.

Normally, you will use this program once or twice on any given machine (unless you're using it for backups). So the $40 price is just plain ridiculous. Download the free version, use it, and delete it.
As a tech, I've used it probably 20 times over the last 15 years or so. Even if that was all put together, $40 is pretty steep. Since that was probably on 15 different machines, that would have been around $200 (probably more, since I'd have to either buy a 100 seat license for $1200, or add on licenses as I go).
Every year or so I go back in to see if they've changed this, as I believe strongly in paying for what I use. I'd LOVE to pay for it. But not at these prices! -
"Did not work as advertised"

Pros
Easy to understand interface with a notice (or warning if you will) when done about making drive bootable. They thought of everything! I like it!
Cons
Took all night to copy. Then, disappointed to find out next morning it didn't work as advertised. Installed the copied drive on same computer. Kept getting a message about "bootloader". I could be wrong, but I think that's a Windows 7 application. I have Windows XP
Summary
Someone mentioned here that this has the potential to be great. I agree. The interface was easy to understand. The instructions made it clear that this was going to do EXACTLY what you wanted it to do. But...in the end, I guess because it's free, don't expect much...you get what you pay for. I would definately buy this product if it worked. Again, because of the interface, this would be a great addition to any PC users arsenol of protection. Thank God for these trials.

The kids laptop (running XP Pro) had just a 40GB drive which was fast filling up and all I wanted to do was to clone the existing drive to a larger one. I looked around and found XXClone which said it would produce a bootable copy - and for what I wanted it for it was free! I read the on-line manual on their web site before downloading & installing. The new drive was 160GB IDE which I installed into an external case with USB2 interface. I Formatted it to NTFS & then launched XXClone. It took just under 2 hours to make the copy. I don't know if that's fast or slow as I have nothing to compare it with. I then made it bootable, switched off the laptop & swapped the discs over. The new disc booted up perfectly first time - no problems at all - all the user acounts, docs, settings etc exactly as it was previously only now with a larger capacity! What more could you ask for! A great piece of software in my mind.

Takes 2 HOURS to clone 40 gb SATA to 250 gb SATA...gets 80% done and THEN figures out it needs a floppy to continue? Who actually has a floppy in 2010? No option to "continue without floppy"...nope, aborted copy...2 hours wasted...
Summary
I had better results using "xcopy" with switches about 15 years ago, if xcopy had a problem w/ target drive you knew UP FRONT, not after 2 hours. And xcopy...even 15 years ago...never asked for a floppy...what the fyouseekay for?
Too bad this software is SO bad, because it has the potential to be really good. The interface is okay, the copy function works okay...but whoever writes the menus/messages is either from Saturn or else just hates Americans. -

I clone PCs that I purchase at garage sales that have Windows XP installed.
If the hard drive goes, so what, no need for restore or install disk.
Hard drives can be different sizes.Cons
It does take some time if you have a large hard drive.

XXClone is a reliable backup tool and has some very useful features. Its 'make bootable' function particularly impresses me and saved my system after an accidental boot sector overwrite (not really a backup function but still extremely useful). While it may take a fair bit of time to complete cloning, you can be sure that no problems will occur, especially if the option is selected to create a log file. Overall, fantastic program and recommended.

"ease of use with no results"

Easy to download and run the program. It took just about 2.2 hrs. to copy 41GB to the 160GB HDD using USB hookup.
Cons
Better instructions would have saved me doing this 3 times. I don't know why it's such a big issue to set out a few instructions and scenarios for 'non-tekkies' to follow. It still fails anyway.
Summary
I wanted to upgrade froma 40GB to a 160GB to allow more for more songs in my library. After reading about XXCLONE I thought I'd give it a whirl. My first attempt seemed to go OK until I tried to use the 160GB Drive in my laptop. I got messages such as PXE-E61 (media test failure, check cable) and PXE-M0F (exiting Intel Boot Agent). I also got a "Operating System not found" message right after. I then read into it a bit more and tried the tools with the 3 checks but that didn't work. I think that has to be done BEFORE copying the disk over to the new disk. So I tried recopying doing the those functions first. (3 hours later).. It has failed again with the same messages. I know the HDD works OK as I can write and read to it as a USB drive. I guess I'll have to check out Ghost or Acronis as another option ;-( too bad as this seemed like a cool program to use.
After rerading all of the reviews I may have been hasty with my 2/5 rating. Unfortunately I cannot change that. I can see that it does work for everyone... so maybe it's something wrong with my setup (BIOS)? It is a laptop (Thinkpad) so there's no master/slave jumpering. I checked the BIOS and tried different configurations to no avail. I will update as needed. Any suggestions can be sent thru CNET or here... thx.

you need to purchase the pro version to do an incremental backup and the licence is yearly not a one off purchase.
Summary
500gB cloned from one SATA drive to another in 4.5 hours - I don't understand the slowness reported elsewhere in this list - maybe that's' with highly fragmented files on ide drives? What a luxury to do it from an interface within the windows environment. As it states on the supporting documentation you can move to a smaller drive as long as the used volume is less than the disk capacity of the drive to be cloned - mine took the data from a 2gB to a 1gB drive.

"It worked!"

Iworked fine, took three hours tor cloning. Disconnected old drive, connected new one as master and I was done - well, maybe two boots - I don't remember now. But everything worked first time!!
Cons
None that were the fault of the software. I used an IDE to SATA adapter that causes a couple messages to come up at bootup; something like "this hardware may not work as expected" but it does. It only whines about it at bootup. I can live with that.
Summary
For a freebie, this is an extraordinary find, though it's not the most intuitive software I've seen. When it completed the back up, I wasn't sure of the next step. I went to the "new" drive and it still indicated the old data on it, (I had pulled it from another PC to put in this one) however, on a hunch, I shut down, installed that drive as C: and rebooted, it came up with the cloned data and ready to run. The old drive list must have been in memory or something at that time, I dunno. 'Point is, it worked fine except for the adapter hassle which is not a big factor in the overall operation and probably had nothing to do with the software. If you use one of those adapters, you might try it out first, if possible to see if you get the same messages- just a hindsight idea. Real bottom line - Great stuff! I'm hooked on Xxclone. Thanks, Xxclone guys!!
