Whether you're an English speaker looking to pick up Arabic or an Arabic speaker who needs to brush up on English vocabulary, WordBanker English-Arabic can help. The program offers a database of words divided into categories, such as clothing, numbers, and food. To practice, you can view an Arabic word, see its English equivalent, and hear both words pronounced. The application's Test Types menu offers three ways to test your knowledge: multiple choice, listening, and type the word. If you're having trouble memorizing a certain word, you can send it to the Hot List. If you have a word down cold, you can bank it to take it out of future quizzes. The new version of this program lets you quickly create MP3s featuring words pronounced in both Arabic and English, handy for practicing on the go. The interface lacks appeal and could be more streamlined, but the main menu uses clearly labeled icons, and the tests provide images for most of the words to aid visual recognition. The trial version only lets you access a certain number of words for seven days, so you'll probably need to buy it if you plan on really becoming fluent. All things considered, WordBanker English-Arabic makes a decent educational aid.
