"Understated UI, but does everything exceptionally well"
Version: Windows Live Photo Gallery 12.0.1347.0718
Pros
Keyboard shortcuts make bulk tagging your photo collection as easy as it could be.
It stores your tags (keywords), captions etc in the file itself, so are portable betwen PCs. IMO This is a very important requirement of a photo organising app.Cons
This version doesn't have the 'straighten' feature - go get the new, and very stable beta version for that.
Summary
Please please please ditch the software that came with your camera with it's Toy Town UI, and likely crippled features, and get this. The UI is pleasingly simple, but has some very well made features. Picasa may be a little more feature rich for now, but this concentrates on your photos, not the program itself. At the end of the day, personal preference will dictate which you prefer.
