We're big fans of software suites that auto-update without getting in the way, and that let you weed out unwanted applications from its roster without having to get sneaky. Windows Live Essentials does both. The software suite of seven Windows Live applications doesn't shy away from the marketing vehicle it is, and it also detects and updates Microsoft-related items that aren't installed as part of the pack, such as Outlook and Silverlight. Our biggest complaint is its size, which weighs in at 134MB. However, if you've got space to spare and use Windows Live applications such as Messenger, Outlook, and Windows Live Family Safety, this all-in-one bundle will help you keep things current.

"horrible import from outlook express"
Pros: Pretty and nice integration with chat video etc
Cons: Poor import of email and especially contacts from outlook express.
Summary: 1) More than three times slower than Thunderbird 2
2) My VERY crucial criteria was a neat import from outlook express. Import with Thunderbird went pretty well, requiring only some remaining and movement of folders. With Live Mail this went bad... read more >> -

"In terms of Windows Live Mail client..."
Pros: Windows Live Mail is the business for me in terms of desktop email clients. Integrates easily with multiple emails (I use Gmail and Hotmail), much more so than other free alternatives and without add-ons! Has RSS and built in calendar support.
Cons: The contacts feature is a little annoying, as it constantly makes many copies of the same contacts, for me anyway. Calendar could be spruced up to support iCal formats easier, and calendar subscriptions. Searching feature can be a little buggy.
Summary: Great program, and totally free. Fully featured, including multiple email support (without having to use add-ons!), RSS, and calendar features, as well as all the normal things. Works seamlessly with Gmail too.
In my opinion, best free email ... read more >> -

"Good but had issues in Vista 64 Bit"
Pros: I liked the mail program it was much better then Hotmail access through IE
Cons: Had problems with Vista 64 unexpectedly quiting when it hibernated with Live Mail open.
Summary: Did not really use any of the other programs like Messenger . Live Mail works OK on my Dell with 32 Bit Vista Premium. But had issues in the Vista 64 Bit version.
