From Microsoft:
The DUN 1.4 upgrade provides additional features for the DUN components that were first introduced in Windows 95. The DUN 1.4 release includes all of the features of all previous DUN releases, as well as those that are included in the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) version 1.1 release. DUN 1.4 features include PPTP client support, 128-bit encryption, support for internal ISDN adapters, multilink support, and connection-time scripting to automate non-standard login connections. The DUN 1.4 upgrade can be applied to any version of Windows 95. However, you cannot install the Windows 95 version of this upgrade on any other version of Windows.
New features in DUN 1.4: 128-bit encryption is supported with the DUN 1.4 upgrade. The DUN 1.4 upgrade improves the stability of PPTP connections. A year 2000 fix for the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) client has been included in the DUN 1.4 upgrade.

"Does anyone still use Windows 95?"

"Doesn't work with software modems??"
Version: Windows 95 Dial-Up Networking Upgrade 1.4
Summary
Unfortunately, I'm stuck with a Win95 computer at work. Because it's an old system, it also has a software-based modem (no, we're not even on a network or LAN... we use dial-up connections!)... DUN 1.4 doesn't seem to work with these. I'm writing this from my Windows 2000 computer because my Windows 95 computer will dial up, but it doesn't connect to any web pages now. Thanks, Microsoft, for giving us yet another stable update to your now unsupported operating system!! I don't believe in MS-bashing, but with every passing moment, I am getting more and more irritated with them.

"Took Some Know-How..."
Version: Windows 95 Dial-Up Networking Upgrade 1.4
Summary
I, too, had a bumpy start with DUN 1.4 at first.
But once I dug into what it does/how it works, I noticed it was having an "issue" with what AOL/JUNO/NetZero had dun to my DUN.
First I ran ScanDisk Thorough with the switches set to "Delete Cross-Linked Files" & "Free Lost File Fragments" with ALL boxes "checked". Afterwards, I ran the latest version of RegClean ( http://download.com.com/3000-2094-881470.html?tag=lst-0-1 ). Works Great! No problems! You may have to re-install your proprietary ISP (like the ones mentioned earlier), but the new 1.4 "works" with these. Tested it with Juno 4.0 which now runs better.
Footnote: MS DUN 1.4 is designed for use with REAL modems and NOT SOFT modems that require OS/software to operate. People with soft modems may have problems with this program and should be running Windows 98 SE anyway. Hope this helps... -
"1.4 crashed & ruin my DUN connections"
Version: Windows 95 Dial-Up Networking Upgrade 1.4
Summary
I used CNET's Catchup Monday. It said that I should upgrade to 1.4. I sent a email to my ISPs technical support about it. They said it wasn't any problem. Yes, yes, I know I should have backed up my hard drive, but my tape drive is broken. In the past, I had no problems with the DUN upgrades. So, I installed this. I immediately faced problems. I couldn't login properly. I couldn't load my home page. I couldn't access Messenger. I couldn't use Communicator 4.72 at all. So, I went to the readme.file. It said that if I uninstalled 1.4 all of DUN would be uninstalled. I really didn't want that, but I couldn't connect to the Net. I found my 1.2 download. So, I uninstalled 1.4 and installed 1.2. Well, that didn't work. I went into Add/Remove to try to install DUN. I pulled out my Packard-Bell CD master disk and tried to install DUN. Well, according to Windows 95, I was missing a whole bunch of files, like MSDUN.CAB. I'm at the library, because I don't know what to do. I called up a repair place and they claim it would be $65- to look at the machine and then 1-1/2 hours to fix it. I find it hard to believe it would take that time to reinstall DUN. I would appreciate any advice from anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area. My number is 510-528-0654.

I'm just curious, for all of you whom are undoubtedly reading this from your netzero account, or perhaps a "borrowed" ISP account from a friend.. why are you so cheap? Why? Why are you running an operating system that's roughly 7-8 years old? For the love of god... I hate you all..
