Nullsoft still has some ground to make up after the poorly received Winamp 3, a dwindling user base, and stiff competition from Apple iTunes. Winamp 5.3 is a huge step in the right direction, with support for AAC encoding, CD burning, and a robust file-management system.
The 5.3x versions have made small but interesting changes, such as FLAC encoding and decoding, CD text reading, support for Windows Mobile devices, and additional filters for the album and artist panes.
We like the Internet TV feature, which provides music videos and live concert footage, although Singing Fish search is less than reliable. Another eye-catcher is the excellent collection of visualizations. The massive catalog of Winamp 2.x and 3.x skins still work with this latest version. The free version is feature-rich, but if you want MP3 encoding and full-speed CD burning, you have to shell out $24.95 for the Pro version. Winamp is one of our all-time favorite players, though, and version 5 renews its promise.

It didn't cost anything. Nice list of choices before installing.
Cons
I was a bit put off by the flashy hype, I like to think of how quietly sophisticated Winamp used to be before the purchaseable content was added to it.
I would also like to see more of the interface, it's really too small for my old 15 inch monitor. It leaves me feeling like someone set the default view to the mini-mode!
And I was let down by the reason I had tried it now. I had heard that Winamp will load songs into iPods. Because I am not able to get iTunes to install for some reason(all spyware is hunted down regularly) I was looking for an alternative. But no luck. The iPod is still a proprietary piece of boiled dog-meat served dry and no way to get my money back...

Still one of the best media players you can get. Plug-in avaliablity is enormous. Skins and the equalizer/processor that are built-in are decent. Sweet streaming. Simple to use.
Cons
Not as speedy as people claim--uses some memory once you get the songs and plug-ins going. Doesn't like pls streams for some reason--some work some don't. Not the best video player but it does the job.
