Nullsoft still has some ground to make up after the poorly received Winamp 3, a dwindling user base, and stiff competition from Apple iTunes. Winamp 5.3 is a huge step in the right direction, with support for AAC encoding, CD burning, and a robust file-management system.
The 5.3x have made small but interesting changes, such as FLAC encoding and decoding, CD text reading, support for Windows Mobile devices, and additional filters for the album and artist panes.
We like the Internet TV feature, which provides music videos and live concert footage, although Singing Fish search is less than reliable. Another eye-catcher is the excellent collection of visualizations. The massive catalog of Winamp 2.x and 3.x skins still work with this latest version. The free version is feature-rich, but if you want MP3 encoding and full-speed CD burning, you have to shell out $24.95 for the Pro version. Winamp is one of our all-time favorite players, though, and version 5 renews its promise.

Version: Winamp 5.33
Pros: Powerful library, manages my mp3's better than any other software. Has great ipod support (much better than iTunes which would put duplicate artists all over my ipod and not read half my mp3 tags correctly) no such problems with winamp. Skins are great. Doesn't use too much resources. The interface is a hit or miss, some love it some hate it.
Cons: Free version has crippled cd burning/ripping

Version: Winamp 5.33
Pros: I like the way aol radio is integrated in this program,I listen almost solely to radio,I dont download, burn,or copy any music so this program player is perfect for me.I have not had any installation or run type issues with it nor any glitches of any kind.Has a lot of color options for the normal user, skin from winamp original is plenty for me.I have only one plug in installed for audio and that has worked flawlessly,All in all its a keeper.
Cons: non existant so far.

Version: Winamp 5.33
"Most Usefull Media Library I Know"
Pros: Nearly complete application for managing and playing sound files. I looked at lots of other progs, but Winamp is the one which satisfy me most. There are almost no wishes left. You can sort your music in the library as you like, assemble playlists in any way you may want to, ID3-tags are shown and can be manipulated in every way you can imagine. The only funktion I miss is to merge two or more files to one, e. g. for audiobooks, which are often split in a lot of small files, and I'd prefer to have one big. (It's because of my MP3-player always sort the files in a wrong order; that's not very nice ... :-> )
Cons: Winamp takes a huge amount of system resources and therefore slow down my other running apps. This makes one star less (only because there are no half stars).

"Still the best all round media player..."
Pros: Winamp just goes on quietly getting better. Very stable, small memory footprint, especially if you resist the temptation to install some of the fancy bits you'll never actually use! Good-looking, flexible, intuitive interface, plug-ins for just about any format out there, peerless streaming radio with built-in ShoutCast tuner, and still, I think, the best library and playlist integration around.
Cons: Very poor ripping and burning in the free edition - but since there are several really excellent free standalone rip and burn apps listed here, it's not a big problem.
