Nullsoft has a lot of ground to make up after the Winamp 3.0 debacle, a dwindling user base, and stiff competition from Apple iTunes. Winamp 5.3 was a huge step in the right direction, with support for AAC encoding, CD burning, and a robust file-management system. Finally.
Winamp 5.3.1 makes some small but effective changes to its predecessor. In addition to playlist syncing for portables and a More Info feature that shows information about the currently playing track, we get a more stable, less-crash-prone environment for MP3s and podcasts and CD-text-reading support. We also love the Internet TV feature, which provides some great music videos and live concert footage, although the Singing Fish search is rife with mislabeled files. Ostensible rock-concert footage turns out to be, on more than one occasion, unlabeled pornography.
Another eye-catcher is the excellent collection of visualizations. The massive catalog of Winamp 2.x and 3.x skins works with this new version. The free version is feature-rich, but if you want MP3 encoding and full-speed CD burning, you have to shell out $14.95 for the Pro version. Winamp is one of our all-time favorite players, though, and version 5 renews its promise.

Version: Winamp 5.23
Pros: Iv always been a fan of winamp, and thats because the focus is on sound quality. Especially with enhancer 0.17( mentioned in another review) the sound is really crisp and clear. Noticably better than other media players i have tested it agaisnt including WMP and itunes.
Great community too means that there are plugins for increased functionality such as a "now playing" plugin for msn.
Cons: Initially the media library is a bit messy and too busy to find songs in. But by moving the bars across you can make it organise songs the same way as itunes.
Practically no cd ripping or burning in the free version as the limitations make the features useless. You can get the full version off some p2p networks which is obviously wrong and I do not recommend this.

Version: Winamp 5.23
Pros: I really don't like winamp, but it has a good soud quality, and I need it to play some files that Windows Media Player won't play.
Cons: The interface is a little messy.

"TOO MANY BUGS WITH THIS VERSION"
Pros: I have been a big fan of Winamp for years now and have the Pro version. It's a fabulous music machine with some of the plugins added.
Cons: There are some serious burner & related issues with this release. Check out the WinAmp Tech support forums for more info. Like many software apps., it appears that WA v5.23 was released to the marketplace before it was ready.

Version: Winamp 5.23
Pros: I've been using Winamp since the mid 90s and it's always performed well. Good sound, lots of options, cool skins, and it's free. But it's not what is once was.
Cons: Winamp keeps issuing updates, it seems like every week, and the only apparent purpose is to bundle more adware with it. Be careful when installing to uncheck all the bundled "ad-ware." This isn't the really invasive stuff, but it's annoying and loads the computer up with useless advertising junk. That's too bad, b/c otherwise Winamp would be great. O, and you can get Winamp "Lite," that won't include this stuff, but it's too basic for me.
