This program proves good things do come in small packages. While WinSettings focuses on protecting your online privacy and security, you also can use it to control screensavers and wallpaper images, change tray and system icons, customize start-up and shutdown routines, and establish background music.

The straightforward interface provides access to all the options through a program icon in the system tray or via the Control Center's tabbed interface. Along with its interesting and useful system settings and history cleaners, it includes unexpected features, such as a screen-capture utility and a Web pop-up blocker. The excellent File Associations tool offers all the tools you need to view and set active icons for each file type, as well as choose default actions, right-click options, and default programs. We used it to repair our Adobe Acrobat file association, which had broken while we were testing other software.

With its potpourri of functions, WinSettings should meet the needs of most power users.

WinSettings is a Windows system tray utility that protects your online and offline privacy and security, cleans up unwanted tracks left on the computer, and lets you gain more control of your Windows. It can automate the cleanup process so your computer is guaranteed free of selected tracks and junk at start-up; it also lets you clean up all tracks on demand with just a single click. It lets you clean up Web surfing tracks, like AutoComplete data, passwords, forms, cookies, history, typed URLs, cache, Documents menu, Run list, and temporary files.

The latest version offers you 29 options to clean up your tracks. It is also a screen-capture utility with auto capture and e-mail options. It offers you 16 ways to capture, e-mail, or save screens. The latest release comes with the Start-up wizard that lets you optionally select Auto Clean and other Start-up options at installation.
