This program proves good things do come in small packages. While WinSettings focuses on protecting your online privacy and security, you also can use it to control screensavers and wallpaper images, change tray and system icons, customize start-up and shutdown routines, and establish background music.
The straightforward interface provides access to all the options through a program icon in the system tray or via the Control Center's tabbed interface. Along with its interesting and useful system settings and history cleaners, it includes unexpected features, such as a screen-capture utility and a Web pop-up blocker. The excellent File Associations tool offers all the tools you need to view and set active icons for each file type, as well as choose default actions, right-click options, and default programs. We used it to repair our Adobe Acrobat file association, which had broken while we were testing other software.
With its potpourri of functions, WinSettings should meet the needs of most power users.
Publisher's description
From FileStream :From the developer: "WinSettings is a powerful Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP utility program that helps you to gain more control of your Windows Desktop, clean up unwanted tracks left on your computer from surfing the Internet and the Documents Menu, and make better use of acquired multimedia contents. Its Screen Capture feature allows you to capture all of part of the screen, or just the application contents, copy it, save it in a variety of image formats, and even to have it automatically inserted into E-mail. You can use WinSettings to manually or automatically clean up surfing tracks on Windows restarts, such as cleaning up Cookies, History folder, typed URLs, and Cache. Along with cleaning up your web browsing tracks, WinSettings can also help to manage recently used files in your Documents menu. This will save you time by reducing the clutter of finding shortcuts to a few files you frequently access. You will also have the power to quickly change Windows' style and appearance, such as the Wallpaper Image Changer and playing Background Music in a variety of formats, including MP3 music. Randomize Wallpaper on startup, create Screen Saver activation hotspots, view important disk information, and create Tray Icons and the space saving Tray Icon menu for frequently accessed programs."
Note: This is a 30-day trial version. The registration price is $20.
