This program uses a simple yet effective method of fighting all kinds of malicious programs. It inspects several spots in the Windows system malware is most likely to alter, including programs launched at start-up, browser helper objects, scheduled tasks, services, and cookies. WinPatrol consumes few resources and doesn't slow your PC. You can set the interval between checkups; the default is every three minutes. If something new installs on your PC, the program notifies you and asks whether you want the newcomer. This won't cure serious infections, but it will save you from annoying adware and malicious sites that hijack your browser home page. You can view full reports in HTML format, and the app even lets you manage which programs launch on system start-up. Improved cookie handling is taken care of by Pinky the Squirrel, who eats "cookies with nuts"--that is, cookies that contain user-defined nuggets of text, such as ads. Users who install a lot of new software will find the program invaluable.Publisher's description
From BillP Studios :WinPatrol with Scotty the Windows WatchDog will sniff out worms, adware, keyloggers, spyware, cookies, and Trojan horses. This program puts you back in control of your computer with no need for constant updates. WinPatrol's goal is to help you better understand what programs are running on your computer and to alert you to any new programs added without your permission. Unlike traditional security programs, WinPatrol doesn't scan your hard drive searching for previously identified threats. Instead using a heuristic approach, a snapshot is taken of your critical system resources, and WinPatrol alerts you to any changes that occur without your knowledge.
In version 9.1 "WinPatrol Notes" allows users to comment and annotate information about program files. Easy access to create, edit, and view text messages connected to files listed by WinPatrol.

Version: WinPatrol 9.1
Pros: Pretty Low on memory This watches everything that goes behind the scenes of the computer or atleast behind the users back. It can intercept programs trying to startup at restart or run without users knowledge and shows what is installed in IE and other things. Doesn't catch everything. So a firewall, antivirus and antispyware programs would still be of use. Like I said before I find Spyware Blaster more effective at blocking Spyware and tracking cookies. But this still is recommended never the less

Version: WinPatrol 9.1
Pros: I've been using WinPatrol for close to 2 years & it 'WORKS' great. Scotty the watchdog does a 'TREMENDOUS' job in detecting 'EVERYTHING' from start-up programs on your system to IE helpers to cookies. Nothing gets past scotty. This program is 'EASY' to install & configure. If you surf the web/internet you 'MUST' have this 'AWESOME' program installed for 'COMPLETE' peace of mind. Thanks BillP Studios!
Cons: 'ABSOLUTELY' zero 'COMPLAINTS' & 'ONLY' praise!

Version: WinPatrol 9.1
"Actually free real-time protection!"
Pros: Uses small disk space and memory. Scotty kicks some o those unwanted stuff. This program is actually free.
Cons: Doesnt have updates for free version me thinks. Just wait for the next version.

Version: WinPatrol 9.1
""A NICE ADDITION. I ENJOY IT""
Pros: 1. The best "Cookie Cutter" around. With one quick click you can see and/or delete exactly who's tracking your web surfing. Very nice feature!!
2. Scotty the watchdog "barks" every time you click on him. Or when an unauthorized "start-up" program tries to install itself. I love that BARK !!
3. Takes up no space at all.
4. Well worth the download!!
Cons: This isn't really a con just a warning. BE VERY CAUTIOUS on what you remove or delete involving "Startup Programs" or "Internet Explorer Helpers". This program(although fun) has the powerful capabilty of removing vital components on your computer. Make sure you know what and what not too remove. ASK SOMEONE WHO KNOWS. Trust Me. :-)

Version: WinPatrol 9.1
Pros: Great for streamlining startup and services, blocking unwanted\unneeded BHO's, browser homepage hijacks, etc. Open the program periodically and scan the information it provides; in no time you'll start noticing if something is amiss. I've had Winpatrol for awhile and think it is great.
Cons: Still need Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro or other protection, however its not intended to replace these types but to complement them.
