This program uses a simple yet effective method of fighting all kinds of malicious programs. It inspects several Windows system spots that malware is most likely to alter, including programs launched at start-up, browser helper objects, scheduled tasks, services, and cookies.
The latest version includes two new logs: one emulates the popular HijackThis log style, while the other is a CSV-exportable format. There are also some tweaks for Vista users, as well as the usual bug fixing. The app consumes few resources, doesn't slow your PC, and is highly customizable. You can set the interval between checkups; the default is every three minutes. If something new installs on your PC, the program notifies you and asks whether you want the newcomer. This won't cure serious infections, but it will save you from annoying adware and malicious sites that hijack your browser's home page. You can view full reports in HTML format, and the app even lets you manage which programs launch on system start-up, including a "delayed" start-up.
Improved cookie handling is taken care of by Pinky the Squirrel, who eats "cookies with nuts"--that is, cookies that contain user-defined nuggets of text, such as ads. Users who install a lot of new software will find the program invaluable.
Publisher's description
From BillP Studios :Clean up your Taskbar and Startup programs. WinPatrol monitors and exposes adware, keyloggers, spyware, worms, cookies, and other malicious software. This program puts you back in control of your computer with no need for constant updates. WinPatrol's goal is to help you better understand what programs are running on your computer and to alert you to any new programs added without your permission. Unlike traditional security programs, WinPatrol doesn't scan your hard drive searching for previously identified threats. Instead, it uses a heuristic behavioral approach, taking a snapshot of your critical system resources, then alerting you to any changes that occur without your knowledge.

Version: WinPatrol 2007 12.2.2007
Pros: Works well. I paid the price for the Plus version. It has a lot of information avaiable about what is going on with your coputer. Worth the money since it is a one-time charge only.
Cons: None so far.

Version: WinPatrol 2007 12.2.2007
Pros: It is an amazingly simple application that should be the cherry-on-top of your security system.
Being a passive program, it doesn't remove any infections. But, if your computer is clean when you apply it, it should keep it free of any nasties.
The coolest thing about WinPatrol that I have discovered is that you can "increase the speed of your computer startup by delaying programs that are not needed immediately."
Oh, and it barks =) Too cute.

Version: WinPatrol 2007 12.2.2007
"It's a cute puppy, just not a nessecary program for me."
Pros: It's a cute program and i recommend it to all my friends who aren't experienced computer users. Hell, I used it for a couple of years myself and learned a lot from it. I do like the on line resources available in the paid version but the data base is not complete.
Cons: However, I'm going to do what i want, when I want with my computers and don't need to be asked by yet another program. My security software asks me plenty as it is.

Version: WinPatrol 2007 12.2.2007
Pros: While looking for software to add to my computer's defense system, I came across both the COMODO firewall and WinPatrol on the same day. I looked through the descriptions of both programs, and figured that the firewall would cover everything that WinPatrol had to offer, so I left Scotty outside.
Recently, I downloaded WinPatrol out of curiosity and sure enough, curiosity kills those sneaky cats. Scotty does a great job at alerting me about changes in my computer and asks if I want to keep them. It stopped a pesky adware program that would've changed my browser's homepage, and showed me some hidden processes that belonged to old, uninstalled software.
Don't get me wrong, though. COMODO is a great firewall program that has its own strengths, but don't be fooled into thinking that WinPatrol doesn't have anything to offer to your computer's arsenal against security threats.
Cons: Where's Pinky?? :(
