This program uses a simple yet effective method of fighting all kinds of malicious programs. It inspects several Windows system spots that malware is most likely to alter, including programs launched at start-up, browser helper objects, scheduled tasks, services, and cookies.
The latest version is fully compatible with Windows Vista, although it remains to be seen at how it handles malware that's been designed to beat Vista. The app consumes few resources, doesn't slow your PC, and is highly customizable. You can set the interval between checkups; the default is every three minutes. If something new installs on your PC, the program notifies you and asks whether you want the newcomer. This won't cure serious infections, but it will save you from annoying adware and malicious sites that hijack your browser's home page. You can view full reports in HTML format, and the app even lets you manage which programs launch on system start-up.
Improved cookie handling is taken care of by Pinky the Squirrel, who eats "cookies with nuts"--that is, cookies that contain user-defined nuggets of text, such as ads. Users who install a lot of new software will find the program invaluable.

This program puts you back in control of your computer with no need for constant updates. WinPatrol's goal is to help you better understand what programs are running on your computer and to alert you to any new programs added without your permission. Unlike traditional security programs, WinPatrol doesn't scan your hard drive searching for previously identified threats. Instead, it uses a heuristic behavioral approach, taking a snapshot of your critical system resources, then alerting you to any changes that occur without your knowledge.
Version 11.2 fixed the bug causing some programs in delayed start to be launched twice.
What's new in this version:
Version 11.2 features performance improvement reading the Windows registry when duplicate reading is being done other security programs and adds right-click access to a programs Folder and Properties including Vista Security settings, Digital Signatures and Shadow copies.

Version: WinPatrol 2007 11.2
Pros: It does an excellent job of all its claims. I am a FREE software devotee. I hate to pay for any of them. I DID however pay to feed Scotty. I needed to make it as powerful as I could so that I know the source of everything that feeds my computer. This is my number ONE tool. Your mileage may vary but I cannot live without this invaluable software. I did not pay for the first few years until I realized the value for less than 30 bucks.
Cons: I would only suggest one improvement and that would be a cookie PRE-creation authorization (mine) opptional feature. It would ask me each time a cookie tries to be created.

Version: WinPatrol 2007 11.2
"Works many times when nothing else will."
Pros: You have no idea how valuable this product will be until you use it. It will let you know anything that is being changed in your system. Those programs (like Realplayer) that overwrite your settings (like Winamp) are a thing of the past. Additionally, viruses/malware that you can't get past can be stopped with this program and then your virus program can get rid of ALL instances, I have used this many times when nothing else would work. I have used it since version 7 and never looked back.
Cons: Can be a pain when you update a major program like Nero because it will ask you to allow about a dozen files before it lets you finish but then again thats kinda why you got it.

Pros: Allows you to review running programs and shut them down if you want along with many other valuable tools. This is a very well written, small program that just keeps on getting better.
