Don't let the hit-or-miss nature of the installation documentation throw you. Even if you have to update components on your machine, you're only moments away from DVD-viewing satisfaction. With an easy-to-use and visually pleasing interface and a bevy of extra features, WinDVD is a demoware dream come true.
The app provides unlimited, theater-perfect playback for the duration of its two-week run on your PC. A slider control improves on the usual Forward and Back buttons, so pinpointing your favorite movie scenes is as fun as watching them in the program's crystal-clear display. Advanced viewing-time controls let you repace the action to fit your available viewing time. The program also features a handful of audio options for Dolby systems and simple headphones.
A full complement of video options includes basic adjustments such as color, contrast, and gamma, as well as advanced tools for monitor calibration. The program's massive 30MB frame also contains great capturing and handling tools for up to six frames at a time. You also can choose to have the movie play as your desktop picture. Give the supersize WinDVD enough CPU room to run and enjoy unfettered viewing pleasure.

Version: WinDVD 7.0-B27.191
Pros: The program is packed with features, such as audio and video enhancements. It also has the new H.264 codec to playback HD content. It's a good futue proof application for the media wars between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.
Cons: There are gray spaces above and below the widescreen image. It would have been better if that gap was black, since the gray is too distracting.

"It works well with my laptop..."
Pros: It's efficient, it does all your basic needs for watching movies and DOES have pretty good cinematic effects... I would not recommend buying this but it came with my laptop so I got it free.
Cons: Ugly...And too basic, doesen't have anything too special that you should need to buy it.

"Poor install and uninstall of the software suggests caution"
Pros: The player does a good job with DVD playback. Its CPU usage is low and the quality of the playback is as expected.
Cons: We were comparing the trial version to an older version of PowerDVD that we've had for a while figuring we'd look at the competition before upgrading. WinDVD's install and uninstall process have serious problems. The install errors with 'RPC server not available' but the software appears to work. At the end of the trial period, attempted removal of the software errored because data2.cab could not be found in the uninstall location. After rooting it out of the install exe and putting it in the expected place, the uninstall from Control Panel seemed to go through an install process. In the end we were left with the software in place and no way to uninstall it. This happened on the few machines we tried here.
Based on the experience with the trial version, we have concerns about the overall quality of the software. Many users are concerned over the ability to manage their machines - the inability to control the installation and removal of this product is a major flaw. Other players have just as good playback but don't have these issues.
Look elsewhere.
