Simple and straightforward is how we like it, and this free utility delivers. It gives Vista users the ability to easily manage their UAC.
WinCleaner UAC Switch's interface consists of two UAC options, but really, you have three options: to run the UAC in normal mode, to run it in quiet mode, and, finally, to turn off the UAC altogether. No matter your selection, you have to restart your computer for it to take effect. After switching our UAC to quiet mode, we noticed a big difference in the number of administrator permission requests when we tried uninstalling and running programs. There is an information button, but it takes you to the publisher's Web site for a more detailed explanation of what the program does, but that's about it. Novices should probably stay away from the program's off option because, as the publisher explains, you have be fully aware of what you're running on your PC because you will no longer be asked for permission prior to installation.
Though we would have liked a more robust Help feature for novices, this program was extremely easy to operate and successfully let us manage our UAC without any issues. The quiet mode alone makes it worth a download for Vista users.

UAC short for User Account Control - also referred to as Admin Approval Mode is a new feature of Windows Vista. Many actions that you normally perform in Windows prior to Vista require Administrator privileges now and so Vista will ask for permission before it will continue with these tasks. The tasks that require Administrator privileges and prompts to continue are as follow: Installation and un-installation of applications; Run applications that require Admin privileges such as Utility software; To run windows configurations or change setting - eg. Firewall etc; To access certain areas of the Vista File System and others WinCleaner.
