This utility records the sound passing through your speakers and saves it in WAV format. Unlike similar programs, WinAARE offers almost no options. It doesn't support hot keys, scheduling, or additional codecs. The tiny application window consists of an input box for the filename and buttons for starting and stopping recording. Nevertheless, WinAARE found a surprising number of ways to frustrate us. The setup file comes in ZIP format, requires Microsoft Installer to unpack, and drops shortcut icons on your desktop and Start menu without asking. For no evident reason, the program installs by default into a folder called SoundStreamRecorder. We couldn't find the promised developer's SDK. As a parting insult, each time you close WinAARE, it opens a registration screen in a browser window. If you want to record Internet radio or some old LPs, much better programs cost only a couple dollars more. Try them first.Publisher's description
From United Research Labs :WinAARE is an audio-recording utility that records virtually everything that goes to the sound card, letting you capture and record live Web streams. WinAARE also allows you to view a file length by time and kilobytes, which is handy if you're dealing with limited hard-drive space.
