It isn't the most polished browser control we've seen, but the problems go much deeper than appearance with this flawed parental control software. Website Block's plainly designed interface holds a File menu, toolbar, and a viewing pane to see your list of blocked sites. Icons are clearly labeled and the commands seem to be fairly straightforward, but our testers wished for some guidance on how blocked Web sites are saved.

The process starts simple. When you hit Add Site, you'll be prompted to enter the full or partial URL in a pop-up window. The sites we entered were immediately listed in the viewing pane. We hit Apply and tried to access the sites we'd entered. They were correctly blocked, and things seemed to be looking good. The Help file, which is only a couple of paragraphs per function, stated that a list of sites could be created in a text file and saved. To block the sites in the text file, users are advised to open it through the program and hit Apply. A sample text file is included, and we opened it and hit Apply. A message stated that the settings had changed, and the listed sites were indeed blocked. Since the settings were changed to block the new list, the old list of blocked sites should have been released. Right? Wrong. Our testers were never able to find the sites originally entered to test, even when the program was shut down and then reopened. The Help file doesn't indicate that you need to save the list of sites you enter on your own in a text file and it doesn't do so automatically. Even adding the test sites to the sample file and then removing them didn't release them and they remained blocked with no way of unblocking them short of uninstalling the program.

To make this software even more useless, it's easily uninstalled through Add/Remove programs, even when password protection is in effect. Skip this parental control program; it isn't worth the time to download.
