A slick interface, simple installation, and tons of customization features make WebcamMax an excellent option for using your Webcam with multiple programs simultaneously.
Compatible with 16 programs, including CamFrog, PalTalk, all the major chatware apps like AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, and MSN, and others, WebcamMax is hassle-free. When installing the program, there are no pesky toolbars to opt-out of, and in fact the program lets you set it as the primary Webcam source for its list of compatible programs during setup. The interface is intuitive and pleasant to use, as well as being well-polished and professional. No worries here about paying for a program that doesn't look the part. We experienced no drags on system resources, but older machines could have problems.
There are freeware programs that offer a very similar experience to WebcamMax, but this app definitely has the larger built-in image library and the smoothest experience.

Version: WebcamMax 2.3.0.25
"Fun, Easy to use and works as advertised"
Pros: I had long sought an intuitive application that would allow me to share videos and add special effects to my webcam. After experimenting with SoftCam I began to despair of finding a product that would meet my needs. A friend had introduced me to WebcamMax several months ago but I was leery of it because it appeared to be in late Beta stage development and there were no reviews or user comments available.
Yesterday, I took another look at the program specifications and searched for user comments. The product appeared to have evolved significantly over the last few months and no negative comments from actual users were found. I bit the bullet and downloaded the trial version replete with annoying moving company logo. To my pleasure the product was intuitive and worked as advertised. I easily captured video playing through The Windows Media Center and shared clips with friends in PALTALK, Skype and Windows Messenger. The streamed video was a bit jerky on Skype and Win Messenger but viewers in PALTALK said it was relatively smooth.
I admit, I loved experimenting with the special effects and animated emoticons. It is very easy to configure WebcamMax to work with all of my Messenger programs and to switch between effects and video sources. I have not yet compared the frame rate with other applications such SoftCam but was impressed enough to cough up the $30 to purchase a licensed version.
So far so good. The special overlay effects are fun and for the first time I have been able to stream video content when using messenger programs. The jury is still out on how it compares to other soft cam products in terms of through put but the program is well designed in terms of ease of use and functionality.
Cons: Now for the rub. When making the online purchase with the China based manufacture a machine ID is requested and there is no help function in the registration process that defines this entry. I realized after revisiting the program registration screen that this computer ID is generated and displayed in that dialogue box. A glance at the YewSoft forum suggests this is a common issue. I suggest the company add a Computer ID help link. To the companys credit they promptly responded to my email with the corrected registration information and forwarded the needed registration code.
