This program performs a decent surveillance job by monitoring POP3/SMTP and Web-based e-mails, but stability issues mar its overall performance. WebMail Spy's clandestine interface can be summoned with a hot key and password. Navigation is easy for configuring settings and viewing logs. You can export messages in HTML or EML, search within recorded messages, create filters, and flag messages that contain user-specified keywords. Like any good surveillance program, WebMail Spy is tough for others to detect and uninstall. We like that it lets you schedule monitoring sessions at every start-up and that you can opt to run it in stealth mode. Every POP3/SMTP and Web-based e-mail in our tests was accurately recorded, but the program failed to include the time stamp, recipient, sender, and subject information from POP3 accounts during our 30-minute trial run. WebMail Spy also includes an e-mail viewer to read messages, but unfortunately the program came to a halt each time we attempted to use it. Though it has its share of problems, WebMail Spy is a good pick for monitoring e-mails.
