In spite of its tiny size, WavePad packs a big audio punch.
The app furnishes plenty of tools for recording and editing sound. WavePad's interface is fairly well-organized, and the Command Bar feature provides quick access to the most frequently used functions. WavePad supports a variety of popular audio formats, including MP3, OGG, WAV, and WMA, and it includes a ripping function.
Once you open a file or begin recording via your sound card, you'll see a large rendering of the waveform, and you can choose to apply edits to the entire track or only certain parts. The application lets you open several files at once and move sound fragments among them, and the inclusion of a batch-conversion utility is a nice touch. WavePad offers a decent number of basic effects, such as noise reduction, normalizing, fading, amplification, echo, changing speed and pitch, and reverb, and you can preview any edits before saving. There are also text-to-speech and speech recognition functions, impressive for a free app.
All told, this utility's many capabilities and lack of restrictions make it a fine pick for all but the most advanced, hard-core audio junkies.

Version: WavePad 3.05
Pros: It's small and useful, I use it to edit some of my music.
Cons: It's not free anymore? I installed it, and then it said my trial expired afterwards.
-
Version: WavePad 3.05
Pros: I trust other users' words when they say it is a very good program but...
Cons: I coudn't test it because despite your and the author's claims that it also runs under Windows 95... it doesn't. Kernel32.dll IsDebuggerPresent.
Please don't flag my reviews as Not Helpful because in the world not everybody is always blessed with a brand new PC with a new OS.
To CNET: why do you not test programs on any given Windows OS before submitting their requirements? you started with the Windows (all) thing just to discover that it doesn't mean 95 to Vista but 98SE to Vista.

Version: WavePad 3.05
"Best audio editing program I've seen"
Pros: Filled with features and easy to use. It doesn't skimp just because its free or loose any of its major features after the trial period. The batch converter is a nice touch.
Cons: For it's price there aren't any cons I can find. It's missing a few features that you might find in some of the higher level audio editing suites...But its free.

Version: WavePad 3.05
Pros: This is a good program if you want to record, but nothing else.
Cons: Very little editing power. Plugins don't work. Audacity is much better when it comes to recording and editing.

Version: WavePad 3.05
Pros: This program has many of the editing functions and featuresof some very expensive recording programs...without the price tag. Granted, it's not an all-supreme powerhouse, but there's a lot that you can do with it. I wish that I'd had a crack at WavePad before I shoved a ton of money into AcidPro!
Cons: Better user documemtation would help those who are 'newbies' to this type of software. Source selection is limited as well, but at the price...you won't hear me complain!
