With a wide range of functions and a powerful speech recognition engine, this program is fit for professionals or for casual computer users who simply want to cut back on keyboard use.
Wave To Text requires a fairly long setup process, including the installation of Microsoft's speech tools. But once launched, it offers a friendly interface, with a desktop panel allowing users to choose between voice training, the primary dictation feature, or converting prerecorded WAV files to text. We found its speech-to-text conversion to be fairly accurate, even without extensive voice training. Like most high-quality voice recognition programs, it requires the use of a decent microphone, and most users will want to have speakers on hand.
It may not be Star Trek's perfect voice-activated computer, but Wave to Text certainly can take good dictation for writers who are tired of typing.
Publisher's description
From United Research Labs :Wave To Text is an English speech recognition-based dictation pad with a WAV to text converter. The dictation pad lets you convert your voice to text in real-time, while the wizard enables you to convert your audio WAV files (speech recorded) offline. This speech utility is probably the most high speed way to convert speech to text accurately, no computer conscious dictation and you also don't miss a word.
Version 5.5.9 improves Point'n'Speak feature.

"Highly unsophisticaed, unusable software."
Cons: I uploaded a very simple wave file spoken by a Californian with a Standard American accent to test out the software. Here's how it transcribed the 3 minute file:
"A assassinate society suicide zealous a assess spouse Sox sells ice scouts stress status CSI anal Sousa thousand size assets C.S. shows socks songs."
I used the slowest, "most accurate" function. It didn't get a single word correct. Transcription software sold for $9.99 at Office Depot in the mid 90's was more sophisticated than this. It lacks an algorithm to tell wether the transcription is grammatical or not, and speaking as a linguist, I can tell you personally that its nearly impossible to build a program that recognizes speech from a sound wave alone.
This is the worst transcription software (and the largest file-size wise) I have ever used.

"Cnet and users certainly disagree on this one"
Pros: The key here is using a good headset with a high quality mic and earphones. Or a good mic and speakers. Otherwise, you will find you agree with most users and not understand why Cnet rated it so highly. After all, Cnet can afford high quality gear when it comes to mics and phones. Remember that, and don't cheat yourself when you're at the discount house looking for basic gear that you will use everyday (like a headset with a mic). And take care of it when you get it home. Hang it up on a hook on the wall. Don't store it on the floor under the rollers of your office chair. And you will agree with Cnet more often.
Cons: Takes patience.

Version: Wave To Text 5.5890.9831
Pros: It installed.
Cons: Training this program reminds me of sitting in Seventh Grade Reading class Twenty years ago and listening to the other students stumble over the word "The". This is just about the most frustrating program I have tried.

"No use of the trial version."
Pros: ?
Cons: From its evaluation licence agreement: " The license granted and the Software will terminate after you have executed the program not more than five times unless you register the software or within 15 days whichever is earlier. " Two or three times just to read the Help files and...that's all. This is not a trial version, it's a downloading-time waste.
