CNET Editors' review
Conquer the world and win cash prizes in this surprisingly addictive (and free) online multiplayer strategy game. War of Conquest's low-res graphics and turn-based action recall the early versions of Civilization. You start with a small territory and try to expand it by conquering neighboring territories or earning points through agriculture. Battles, unfortunately, were disappointing. Too often we saw a vastly more powerful civilization lose to a weaker opponent. The game's graphics and sound are weak points, too. So what's the attraction? In short, money. Capture enough "orbs" on the map, and you can exchange them for real cash prizes. If you're the impatient or affluent type, you also can use real dollars to buy advanced technology for your civilization. War of Conquest probably isn't for casual players, but strategy buffs looking for a real payoff may find it irresistible.Publisher's Description
From IronZog:
Wage war with hundreds of other players and win money in this multiplayer online strategy game. Build your nation, forge alliances, develop technologies, capture resources, and battle for possession of the ancient Orbs scattered throughout the lands. The longer you possess an Orb, the greater your prize winnings grow. Players can purchase game credits, which can be used to give their nation special technologies and abilities.
Version 1.14a features minor improvements and bug fixes.

"Not for everyone...well not for many even"
Version: War of Conquest 1.27
Pros
it Used to be fun and simple, looked simple and it ran great before.
It is possible to make real money.Cons
Its difficult to make money, you do not make much when your able to.
Months and Years go by without any real updates, the admins set deadlines they never stick to. You generally see the same people all of the time.Summary
A few years ago I would have strongly recommended this game, but not anymore. Now the game is run by 1 person, and it's not even the person who created the game, so updates are pretty much nonexistent as the admin is not completely familiar with the games code.
There is Negativity towards new players, most don't bother to learn the game and leave. And because of this, the community remains rather small, with the maximum number of players logged in caps at around 40-50, but since you can run more than one client, several of these are the same person.
The requirement for such a simple game are ridiculous now (it used to run just fine even on older machines). I can run world of warcraft just fine on my computer, but when playing this little java game about squares, the game doesn't even run smooth and often freezes.
Recent client change has only made the game worse, the attempt to make this simple game of clicking squares look more "modern" in todays age, has failed. It may look like its a "cool" game, but it does not function as such, you will be disappointed..seeing it and playing it are two very different things
I would not recommend this game for many at the state its in right now. -
"Immersive game, not for masses definitely"
Version: War of Conquest 1.27
Pros
It's an addicting game where you grow your territory and develop technologies.
Cons
The battles are maybe too simple and abstract. Also, they take some time and while in a battle you can't influence it, you just passively wait and watch the bars until you or the enemy wins.

"If you enjoy constant problem"
Version: War of Conquest 1.27
Pros
What I liked about this game was the ability to run multiple nations at the same time regardless of their levels, and in-game "chat"
Cons
Constant server disruption, ill inform administrations, none-existent payout schedule, it takes several months to get any sort of resolution with in-game problems (clients not installing probably, missing files, viruses included in their game, non-professional moderators/admins. The list goes on.

"Good game"
Version: War of Conquest 1.27
Pros
The teamwork and the game style.
Cons
I disslike the game goal: to earn real money, I mean the point is to have fun.

"This game is great if you have spare time."
Version: War of Conquest 1.27
Pros
The battle system is ok and the technologies are great and varied. This game is good if you like strstegy games.
Cons
The fact that you can only get money on the game by actually buying with a paypal sucks. The movement takes to long and the map is to tiny.

"IT'S OK"
Version: War of Conquest 1.27
Pros
OK THE PROS WELL ARE YOU MAKE MONEY AND ITS INCREDIBLY ADDICTING. YOU CAN EASILY SPEND HOURS WITH IT.
Cons
EXTREMELY POOR GRAPHICS AND IT TAKES WAY TO LONG TO PLAY OR TO SETUP PROVINCE. IN ADDITION DURING BATTLES THERE IS TO MUCH RANDOMNESS.

"Does what it says (maybe) but boring"
Version: War of Conquest 1.27
Pros
In theory, a small group of elites make some money off this game.
The game is designed to kill off/retire the top level players so they have to start from (almost) scratch, in theory giving other upcoming players a chance.
There's also a "deadman's switch" type popup that supposedly ensures that real humans are playing instead of some kind of bot, but it clearly isn't working, there's no way a normal person could do that much mouse-clicking without getting a serious case of Carpal-tunnel.
This game is maybe suitable for background play while watching Youtube or a DVD or something to keep your mind busy.
Cons
Simple graphics and lack of any but a very basic strategy aside... The game play is mind-numbingly boring and needlessly slow. Click, wait 5-6 seconds for the "battle" to resolve. Repeat 10,000 times (I'm not exaggerating) and you probably will get near an "orb".
The high level players who hold the orbs stomp most challengers, you just have to wait for them to be retired.
To have any chance of making money, you have to be a shut-in or an IT worker who can devote many hours to this tedious game, but apparently, once lucky enough to be super-high level and capture these "orbs" you can sit on your ass and rake in several cents per hour! Seriously, go out and collect aluminum cans if you wanna make money, 10 minutes of that will get you more than you can hope to see from playing this game for a week solid, and you'll get a bit of exercise.
I "play"ed this game for a few days and racked up about 25 cents, but it is really bad for the wrist. I'd wager that the "pros" are using some kind of bots to play for them, or they just have good wrist muscles;)
Is there any proof that people (with no relation to the developers) are actually getting paid at all?

"Average and ordinary & nothing special!"
Version: War of Conquest 1.27
Pros
It is easy to understand but that the only good.
Cons
The graphics are disgusting and might I add there seems to be almost nothing to really do!
