This video splitter, merger, and format converter has an interface that looks like it hasn't aged since 1997. Fortunately, it's been laid out in a clean, legible manner, and that goes a long way toward usability.
WM Converter deftly handles conversion to WMV and QT formats from most of the major standards. These are preformatted for the Zune and the iPod, which means that the predefined bitrate will seems low for desktop use of the output files. Batch conversions are no problem for this Ugly Duckling of an app, and the merging tool was effective during our tests, as well. The program can also extract audio tracks from videos and record them as MP3s.
Although the interface is readable, a cleaner layout would be really helpful in identifying the various conversion buttons and other options. We would also like to see more customization choices in future editions.

"Did not always work well (lost audio parts)"
Pros: The quality of video was OK, but ..
Cons: Parts of the audio were lost (something you may notice only when you already deleted the original).
Had problems with some codecs

Pros: The perfect all-purpose video converter. It converts .flv very well, also. The gui is self-explanatory and attractive. I'm satisfied with this converter.
Cons: It leaves the original file extension on converted files along with the new extension. for example, if you convert "funnyvideo.flv" to "funnyvideo.avi", it will appear as "funnyvideo.flv.avi" in the output folder, which might be confusing to some people. Other than that, I have no complaints about this free converter.

Version: WM Converter 2
Pros: The only reason I didn't give it 5, was due to the fact it could use just a couple\few more conversions and options and a slightly better interface. All in all, it's free, works great and have no problems with it. Quite fast on the conversions I may add. You can't lose using it, it's great for what it's supposed to do.
