Simple to use. Updated frequently. The price is right.
Cons
Excellent product that is updated frequently. You will always be able to access and operate your scanners if not today then at least in a week.
Summary
Cannot think of any other than it duplicates somewhat the applications that come with your scanners.

Works with all of my scanners (two) a Polaroid film scanner, HP part of the HP7280.
Very intelligent used with a combo flatbed/sheet feeder.
Supported well .
Often updated for new products.
Improved significantly over time.
Interface consistent.Cons
The basic interface isn't basic enough from what I've seen and heard. However for me this is minor to non-existent flaw since I learned it easily and it's stay true to it's beginning usefulness, just gotten faster and more accurate over time.
Summary
Try, buy, use, support this fine scanner software. You won't be disappointed.

allows me to use equipment which works well but was orphaned by the manufacturer - like Canon FS400US filw scanner

I never have much difficulty with VueScan with my Epson 3170 scanner. The instructions are very clear and if I have difficulty understanding, it will show me how to do what I want to do.
Cons
With my failing eyesight, I scan instructions for equipment that I buy (OCR) but the paper from China which is very thin and very cheap (IMO) that it can not be scanned very well. I scan as a b/w, text doc but it comes out just a smear of grey/black
Summary
Over all this is a great product since the original software was OS 9 and early OS X but stopped working several versions ago particularly with the OCR software that came with it. I checked both web sites, Epson and ABBYY® for updates but it appears to have been abandoned. I still love it's functionality and versatility. Especially when I use the VueScan software. It makes a no brainer wonderful combination.

I don't scan often, so I don't have a memorized routine. Nevertheless, when I crank up VueScan, it's very easy to use. And the results are just what I need.
