"Getting the Pro Version is best money I ever spent!"
Version: VueScan 8.6.63
Pros
Allows use of old UMAX scanners for Macs. Mine died and was replaced with an HP 8500 Premiere all-in-one. VueScan corrects a problem that makes letter-size 8500 scans come out as 35" x 45" (I kid you not). Lifetime updates provided with Pro version.
Cons
Absolutely nothing. It is perfect!
-
"itworks and it does the job"

It is constantly updated yet is backward compatible to OS Tiger.Cons
I have no cons to report

"Best value software I have ever used"
Version: VueScan 8.6.63
Pros
Provides scanner support unlike any other program, great support, constant updates and
Cons
Slightly unusual interface.
Summary
This program has allowed me to scan images for myself and other people using scanners that are no longer supported or just plain didn't work with the manufacturers OWN drivers. Indispensable!

"If you have a scanner you should consider VueScan."
Version: VueScan 8.6.63
Pros
It works with many, many scanners. and has excellent control features. The developer is very responsive to questions and suggestions. If your scanner is supported you can't go wrong.
Cons
This is not truly a negative, but it is updated it seems like weekly as support for new scanners is added plus tweaks. Very nice that it is so actively maintained, but a monthly cycle might be preferred unless a major gremin is being squashed.
Summary
Excellent functionality. Actively developed and supported. Recommended.

"The Best out there....hands down!"
Version: VueScan 8.6.63
Pros
Easy to use but will do so much more that I have plenty of room to grow with it! Excellent software!!
Cons
...won't make dinner or do the laundry!!
Summary
Of the very few times I have any issues with VueScan, a quick email to Mr. Hamrick and a solution is sent back...often withing hours!! Best customer service of any type I have ever dealt with!!

"Puts the others in the shade."
Version: VueScan 8.6.63
Pros
Gives excellent results even from my 10 year old HP flatbed. Plus the degree of control it gives me over my neg/slide scanner is phenomenal.
Cons
Hangs and crashes on my Mac intel 24 inch iMac too often which is annoying and slow down work flow. Would be good to be able to name files more easily at the point of saving.
Summary
Despite its few minor flaws, there's nothing else out there to beat it. It does what it says on the tin, and the updating and after sales from Mr Hamrick is legendry
Oh and why only 4 stars? Well the star rating system is a bit of blunt instrument. 5 implies that perfection has been reached and nobody or nothing is perfect. A percentage rating would mean we could fine tune our assessments. I would give VueScan 95%
