This small application doesn't have much in the way of interface. It installs quickly, adding a WAV converter item to the right-click context menu. Free MP3 Format automatically detects which format the file is in and proposes to convert it into another format. For instance, when right-clicking on a WAV file, the MP3-to-WAV option is grayed out. After you select whether to convert the file to MP3, WAV, or WMA format, the conversion starts. The program creates the converted file in the same folder as the original file. Among other special features, the Sound eXchange menu shows you a lot of information on files. Despite the extreme simplicity of the program, it does its narrowly defined task well. Casual audio users will benefit most from this program, which is free only for the seven-day trial.
