Although this application promises comprehensive file-search capabilities, it doesn't always deliver. VisualSearchPro Search and Replace Utility offers a neatly designed, skinnable interface divided into tabs for Find in Files, Find and Replace, Find Files, and Line Count. Though it works like the default Windows search tool, it also includes a simple text editor and the ability to find and replace text in user-specified directories. Despite the simplicity of the functions it performs, this application seems overly complex to use, especially for the novice. Also, though the help file is extensive, it too is somewhat hard to follow. In our tests, VisualSearch Pro Search and Replace Utility didn't find text in ZIP files as promised and, when we tried to replace text in multiple Word documents, no changes occurred although the files would no longer open in Word. Though this program could prove to be of use to the patient advanced user, more robust and intuitive options are readily available.

VisualSearchPro is a cross-platform search and replace utility. Those familiar with the UNIX grep utility will discover the same capabilities in VisualSearchPro. VisualSearchPro allows you to search for keywords across multiple disparate directories and supports searching using regular expressions. It even allows you to search the contents of zip files. VisualSearchPro provides comprehensive search and replace capabilities. It comes with its own editor and provides support for adding custom editors on a file-type basis.

Version 1.4 includes a number of bugfixes, including text replacement and undo operations. Text replacement was also enhanced to allow replacement by an empty string. The user interface was revamped to include a skinnable look and feel and the icons were updated. This release also sees support for excluding particular sub-directories from search operations.
