Visual MP3 Splitter & Joiner is a handy software utility that can split and combine WAV and MP3 files. You can cut a large audio file to small parts without recompression and loss in quality. For splitting you don't need enter start and end time manually. It's enough to select the desired part visually using a mouse - the program draws audio files as waveform. It's very easy to find a sound fragment by scrolling and zooming. To identify blocks you can use a built-in player, then you can move borders to cut them by 0.1 and 0.01 sec. Visual MP3 Splitter & Joiner can split MP3 files into equal files by number of parts, by time and filesize. Visual MP3 Splitter & Joiner can merge several WAV, WMA or MP3 files into one big (supported over 2 GB). Easy to use and good for cutting APE file into individual songs in WAV files, then use other tool to convert them to MP3.
Cons
Sometimes, has issue for last song when cutting, the length of last song can be zero.

"Does the job I need"

Pros
Visual MP3 Splitter and Jointer does the job it says it will do. There is a learning curve, instructions are advanced but once you get it it is easy. Got an answer to a question using email quickly.
Cons
Trial only allows 5 splits - hard to evaluate. Instructions could be more easier to follow. Freezes when recording now and then.
Summary
After searching and comparing several products, I decided to give this one a try. It does what it says it will. I needed to put splits or tracks onto recorded music from old cassettes and vinyl. This does that easily. Using Silence Detection is easiest for most things. On the whole, I am getting used to it and it will do what I want. Sure wish it could label and name the tracks, etc. (smiley) The instructions leave something to be desired. They assume you know things you don't, and there are word links on each page which take you all over the place, but sometimes that has been best for me to find out answers to my questions. I like the ease of recording, I just think there is a more logical way to set up the instructions. I also thnk it is better to give someone a REAL trial even if it is one day but not just 5 splits. I had to take the plunge (it's not very expesive) so I could really get going on what I wanted to do.

Pros
This program works with mp3 files much better than others. It doesn't convert mp3 to wav and back (and many others do that silently without as much as a warning that the quality will be reduced).
Cons
The waveform could be bigger, but it can be zoomed, which is enough.

It supports all splitting methods that I ever use: spltting by silence, splitting by cue sheet, splitting by a number of pieces. I don't need visual splitting itself, but it's nice to have everything in one package.

It supports silence detection and splitting by CUE sheets, which is very useful for me. Splits MP3 files directly, without converting them. Nice waveform display for selecting parts with the mouse.
Cons
If you zoom out too much, building the waveform of a big file may take some time.
