Publisher's description
From Ozone :VisiPics does more than look for identical files. It applies four image comparison filters in order to measure how close pairs of images on the hard drive are. It will detect two different resolution files of the same picture as a duplicate, or the same picture saved in different formats, or duplicates where only minor cosmetic changes have taken place. All detected duplicates are shown side by side with pertinent information like file name, type and size displayed. Uses Hyperthreading or Multi-processors systems. Highly efficient results with adjustable similarity levels. Easy to use interface, preview your duplicates easily and pick the ones to delete with a simple click. Starts to display the results while scanning, you don't have to wait to delete your duplicates. Version 1.1 The directory list has been completely reworked for an easier to use and more modern feel. You will especially appreciate the new Ignore option, to protect the pictures you care most about.

"Nice program but not the best duplicate finder"
Pros: I tested this program against Dup Detector, another freeware program, on an archive of 23000 pics. I liked the interface of Visipics better.
Cons: However, when it comes to finding duplicates, Visipics is simply inferior to Dup Detector, finding only approximately 60% of the duplicates Dup Detector would find. Especially the visual inspection of the file is inferior with Visipics. If the files are completely similar, Visipics will pick them out for you too. So if you are looking for real visual inspection of your images, take another choice, if you want to eliminate full duplicates, use this one.

Version: VisiPics 1.1
"Very promising software, worthy of support"
Pros: Excellent at finding duplicates, provided the collection of compared images is not too large. The sliding scale for determining degree of likeness is a great innovation. The software finds similar images as well as exact duplicates. The interface is simple to use, and clearly laid out.
Cons: I find 20-30,000 images is an upper limit for comfortable comparison, on my PC. If I compare more, I need to rearrange my directories and do multiple compares, which does become tedious. Also, the software does sometimes freeze when multiple compare runs are done in one session. Hopefully comparisons will be speeded up in later versions?

Version: VisiPics 1.1
"An excellent duplicate finder with almost no false positives"
Pros: Nearly all of the other programs I've tried found fewer dupes and had more false positives than VisiPics. They especially had problems with line art and cartoons --often completely and obviously different -- which this program detected easily. The only other one that sometimes seemed to find duplicates VisiPics missed is Dup Detector, and that also seemed slower and a lot looser in matching images that were not duplicates.
Cons: On *rare* occasions and with several thousand images, it would lock up. Looking in task manager, this only happened when the program took over a gig of memory during massive searches. Considering the infrequency this happened and the accuracy of the result, it is a pretty minor point.
