A newer version of VirtualDub is available.
(Download doesn't provide access to previous versions of this program.)
Publisher's description
(From Avery Lee ):VirtualDub is a video capture and processing utility licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It is designed to be a general utility that can trim and clean up video before exporting to tape or processing with another program. It does not possess the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files, which you can extend with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is best at processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and handle BMP image sets.
New in version 1.5.10: Removed "accept partial streams" from MPEG-1 options and made it enabled by default; added warning. Filters are now notified whether a render is for preview or output purposes. Bug fixes.

Version: VirtualDub 1.5.10
Pros: I use this tool for alot of things for my encoding. But the number one thing I use it for is taking out ac3 and mp3-4 audio out of my AVI's so I can convert them. Its extremely fast at doing this process for me. Its also a great progam to quickly cut out scenes you dont want or to cut off the ending credits to make the movie shorter. As well as alot of other advanced things you can do with this.
Cons: Sometimes Crashes when extracting ac3 audio files.

Version: VirtualDub 1.5.10
Pros: VirtualDub in the various versions can be confusing to beginners, I recommend you install:
VirtualDub 1.6.15 or later, orginal program, no mpeg2 support.
VirtualDubMPEG2 1.5.10 supports mpeg2 files
Virtual DubMod 1.5.10.2 build 2542 (22Feb2006) supports mpeg2 and more.
All are stable, and easy to use, be sure to read about them.
Cons: none, except unfortunately all the versions of VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod are unable to support asf (WMV) files.

Version: VirtualDub 1.5.10
"Wonderful For Frame Capture Of Video Files"
Pros: This review may not tell you what you want to know, but I will tell you one thing VirtualDub excels at:
Frame capture. Somewhat unwieldy (maybe 50,000+ jpgs) but it does the trick flawlessly. Open a video file, and VirtualDub can be used to capture EVERY SINGLE FRAME into jpgs, with great picture quality.
If you are looking for a frame capture tool, use this, it's free and powerful.
Cons: I only use this program for frame capture, for which it is perfect. Other than that, I don't know.

Version: VirtualDub 1.5.10
Summary: If you ever want to extract your favorite scene from a movie, if your downloaded movie is too large to fit one cd, or if you just want to have fun playing around with some clip, then this is the correct address to go. Tons of filters (resizing, flip... read more >>
