With effects, samples, and transitions that rival vinyl turntablisms, Virtual DJ lets anyone produce polished MP3 mixes. At the top of the graphically intense interface, song-structure visualizations show the beats as the music plays. Two simulated turntables play the currently loaded tracks. Windows below the turntables show samples, effects, music search, recording, program options, and an Explorer-style interface for loading music. You'll need to download an MP3 encoder if you don't want to record files in WAV format. The program not only can create audio collages, but it now also can make montages of video clips. The stylish interface and high number of features score points, but learning how to use the program is a hit-or-miss proposition. Fortunately, the program offers a thorough user guide. Virtual DJ is well worth a look both for wannabe mixers and newbies. Watch the CNET video review of Virtual DJ:
Publisher's description
From Atomix Productions :The sequel to AtomixMP3, VirtualDJ is MP3-mixing software that targets every DJ from bedroom DJs to professional superstars, such as Carl Cox. The application is used in many big clubs all around the world. With its breakthrough BeatLock engine, your songs will always stay in the beat, and you can work your mixes incredibly faster than any other DJ could. The automatic seamless loop engine and the brand-new synchronized sampler will let you perform astounding remixes on the fly.
You also can use special vinyl and scratch your CDs or MP3s directly on a real turntable. Add to that several interfaces to suit both beginners and professionals; a beat display to see the whole song's structure and breaks; an infinite number of cues saved per songs; and VST or proprietary beat-synched effects. The application also features the ability to record your mixes and burn them on CDs, to broadcast on the Internet, to record your CDs in MP3, to automatically mix playlists, and to use a headphone to preview the songs or an external mixtable to perform in a club. Version 2.05 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

Version: Virtual DJ 2.05
"I Use This @ The Club and Home"
Pros: I was a bit skeptical about using a laptop for DJ work until Virtual DJ came along and made the process so easy. I have used this program in place of two 1200 turntables, cd players and a host of other equipment. It works well.
Cons: You have to purchase the interface unit for club use and major mixing. It will work just fine for weddings and simple dj assignments

"Fantastic tool for live recording and mixing!"
Pros: Out of all these so-called "live mixing applications" that I've tried (MixVibes, PCDJ, Tractor, etc.), this one is a clear winner and I mean it! But, like many other softwares, the word "perfect" can rearly be used. Obviously, there are always improvements to look ahead. However, this software has proven to be as close as perfect as it can get. The new version is very professionally coded and stable, not to mention, it has a crash guard that won't let you down in case you happen to use this software at a club or at a private party. Combining all these nice features with a fantastic user interface, simplicity of use, skinning and sampling support, looping, the possibility of implementing advanced effects, accurate scratching simulation and enhanced recording capability, this software is defenitily worth a try!
Cons: As I said before, the word "perfect" should rearly be used, when desribing things. In case of "Virtual DJ", the main disadvantages are the lack of "loop in"/"loop out" capabilities and the limitation of only two decks (channels). So, I cannot give this product more than 4 stars, but one day it will get there.
