Publisher's description
From NeuralTek :VideoSnaps provides for 'one touch' extraction of high quality distinct Photographs from a Video file - no manual picking of frames is required - NeuralTek's image matching techniques automatically scan for unique pictures in the video stream, and creates a shortlist of photos which the user can pre-view, then selectively delete or batch-print/ save - ideal for getting those 'magic moments' from any home video recording - with minimal effort.
Version 7.34 supports MPEG2/ VOB files.

Version: VideoSnaps 7.34
Pros: (1) I don't give compliments lightly, and am not some kind of PR PR*CK, but it is worth saying that NeuralTek is a wildly successful company that has grown exponentially since it was founded in 1992; (2) The company invented VideoSnaps, along with other excellent multimedia programs, using its highly advanced proprietary "neural" (I guess) technology. Take a look at the main website, and be impressed; (3) The download page is way cool; (4) The snapshots are high quality; (5) The options are comprehensive, affording the user with the opportunity to configure in advance the output according to his needs; (6) Snaps easily are edited in Irfanview and Image Composer (OK, I'm Old School); (7) This is no run-of-the-mill bikini-pic-collection tool, but, rather, it is designed to handle serious projects. (It is quite good at the bikini thing, too - I have heard); (8) Tech support is formidable, which I value very highly. I emailed a question and received an intelligently formulated, friendly, response only a few hours later. When I sent more information about my question, including screen shots, again, I got a speedy response with additional pertinent info.
Cons: (1) The GUI likely is somewhat daunting to the non-tech, bikini crowd; (2) The only confusing operation for me was setting the aspect ratio; (3) One touch extraction is available, but, less knowledgeable users might reticently be tempted to peek into and change the intriguing options and settings (I suppose), which the authors try to discourage by by means of a pop-up warning appearing upon program initiation; (4) The algorithm which effectuates the "automatic scanning" is highly advanced (perhaps too much so, although I would be proud of it, too, and charge the fair $69 for the full version, as I gladly did so). The "Many/Fewer Snaps" and "Deep Scan/Quick Scan" settings do enable the capture of more frames, but, while this "smart" scan process certainly must be very handy for capturing the magic moments of your vacation at Disney World (Do you really need 22 photos of Timmy with Mickey?), more serious projects are impeded by the inability to extract every single frame. This largely is a non-issue, except for the more demanding users.

Version: VideoSnaps 7.34
Pros: Unknown because I was unable to use the software on the video I had.
Cons: Does not work on slideshows from Picasa.
Summary: I was just looking for a program to capture frames from Picasa. Ended up using Windows Media Player, pause, screen print, paste into PhotoShop and remove everything except photo.
